I came accross a German k98k Sniper rifle. It comes with the original scope but it does not have the mounts.
Its in Mint condition with matching #'s
How much is this worth??

What is the code and year on the receiver?
Is it a ZF41 scoped rifle or a high turret, for example?
To be honest, I have never seen a legitimate one in person in Canada. I am sure they exist, but not anywhere I have been.

Just so you know, Over 90% of them are faked. It's a minefield.

The pics, the maker, the serial number range and a hands on inspection do the talking. If you don't know what to look for you'll get burned.

Its a high turret.:D
I going to take a look at it tommorw. I made the deal to trade a 30-06Mauser sporter and a 308 Mauser sporter for it.these guns are only worth 500Togther

It wont hurt my pocket

-The owner wants a hunting rifle so i will give them for the k98k:D

One of my buddies had 5 real k98 snipers until about 7 years ago when he needed cash for a new house.

Last "real" K98 sniper I came across was actually a RC refurb with mismatched scope mount and reproduce scope. "Only $1000". When I called him on it he couldn't even mount a response and said the electro penciled bolt was original German serial numbers. Wow. Just wow.

Lots of K98s out there with civilian versions of WWII German Optics. Not Fakes, just using up surplus rifles for hunting. Very common in post war years all over Europe.

And unless the owner has been under a rock since the 60s, he will know thats its worth a lot more then 2 sporters......sounds fishy

The Owner of the rifle is a Native, he bought the rifle 3 weeks ago from a old Native and tried to find the mounts. So i offered him a trade. He said he knows nothing about the k98k. So i think it is real:D

I will see tommorow, if i do take it i will post pics.

I really hope it is a legit High turret! I would love to see you score one!
Last one I saw represented as original was at one of the Calgary Easter shows, from a "big" collector so it had to be real, right?
Wasn't, not by a long shot. Almost all out there are not, as Coyote Ugly said. Humped and forged, the fakers getting better all the time.
I have owned several matching wartime examples of the K98 rifle over the years. I am far from being an expert, but I know enough that sniper 98s are in a whole different league. I can muddle around your basic vet bringback and tell if it is correct in many instances, but I can hardly tell you the first thing about sniper 98s.
Honestly, good luck, we all hope this works out for you :)

Many rifles with matching numbers could be fitted with scopes, it doesnt make them sniper rifles, nor does it make them fakes unless purported to bee something they arent!

And many k98s with matching numbers are in fact East German or Czech postwar refurbs. It's a minefield, and I've learned the hard way over the years.
I really hope the OP has found a genuine example, and would share his find with the rest of us :)!!
