VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Amazing I have a picture of this gal as my desktop and she is holding a rifle/variant which I am currently cleaning.

Must go relieve...

So besides fitting under a trenchcoat what can a CZ/VZ-58 do for $600 that my choat stocked SKS with a muzzle brake can't do for $300?

I'm happy with my easy shooting SKS and two crates of ammo paid for.

Change mags, easier field strip, (in my case) more accurate, handles better, looks better, not stamped (Norinco SKS). Did I mention that you can change mags!
Ya, sure, you could get the D model but I've owned two and they are rather cheap. I prefer rifles originally designed with the detachable mag feature.

Because I can and I want to

Pissing off liberals sounds good to me Deckard. best reason yet.

I find with stripper clips and the 5 rnd mag restriction there is absalutly no need to change mags when shooting. Magazines are for when your firing volumes that make loading 3 stripper clips look like a long time. Loading a half stripper clip and removing it takes me about 3-4 seconds once my bolt locks back.

On the Look Cool Factor who are we out to immpress? I hit that gong out at 300m 5/5 shots with 1 second between shots and even with this $300 SKS i get enough admirers at the Malahat range.

So its 6 5/30 rnd mags done give any advantage there! All you paying for is the LCF. From all those pics posted and a little hands on time it doesn't seems to strip any easier either.

Yeah I was one of the guys who vote "It's militarily significant, but I can pass.

Well all I can say again is mags. Anyone who can't see the advantage... that's actually a good thing. I like my SKS, but sometimes it is handy to have a modern military rifle. By your reasoning John the SKS is superior to anything in the semiauto class. This is ok by me but, as I said, sometimes its nice to have a tool with some extra capabilities.:D

I wouldn't call the VZ58 modern........;)

To each his own I guess. Apparantly enough people think it is worth spending more for a 58 than an SKS. That is their perogative, as is your way of thinking.
