VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

So that Marstar muzzle break, does it just thread onto the VZ or do you need a gunsmith to do that for you? Is it easily removable or perminant?

Just screws in. Easy as 1, 2, 3 :D

Oh BTW ..when shooting corrosive ammo, clean the break. It's not chrome lined. It will rust. Trust me ;)

The middle one is an AK - So is the top one....

seriously - the CZ-58 is better, even in the VZ-58 / CZH2003 Sport / CZH 858 etc etc form.

In almost all aspects it is better... the only one that it is lacking in is the F/A one.

This AK obsession is really silly, In general Canadians can't shoot F/A thus get over the image, get something that you can own (for now) as it surely will be banned in the future.

So the VZ is better than the AK? Is that why the Czech's are dumping the VZ's in favor of an AK design?

The American military got rid of .45 cal rounds and adopted the NATO 9mm in their service pistols. Quite a few people seem to think that was a mistake.

Compromising quality for economical and logistical reasons is sometimes inevitable.

Don't think so.. might be wrong here but, I have heard there is another varient that uses .223 that might be implemented. ( originally this project died in the 1980's but looks like it is gathering steem?) VZ58's are from what some of our Czech colleagues have been saying are more durable that the AK design in cold weather and harsh condtions. :?: :?

The Cz2000 (Lada) is/was an AK style rifle chambered in 5.45x39 and 5.56x45. I believe the Czech's shelved the project for financial reasons, not a lack of desire.

Actually I heard there new rifle was the same design as the VZ58 internally.

The lock up of the VZ is one of the silliest parts of the design, every service rifle I can think of has the bolt locking directly to the reciever, this adds another seperate piece to the lockup, never a good thing. The leaf springs in the trigger mech is another weak design, as well as the paperclip spring guide. Google CZ2000/Lada2000 and there is some info on that rifle.

I also doubt they are cheaper to make , 50 million AK's tells me that.
They are not nearly as robust as the AK.

I agree with you on the "robust" part, and he was saying the AK is cheaper:

Oh yeah, thanks!

Well the point is moot because no ungrandfathered individuals are going to get AK's anytime soon unless they want to buy a Valmet M78 hunter and dress it up like a military AK. Have fun with that

I wonder how the Czechs decide who get fixed stocks and who gets folders?

I tried the folder at the range and if I was going to have to carry one in a war, I'd like the folder to save weight and make it handier to pack, but for paper punching it's a liability. The fixed stock is better for this IMHO.

I should try one of the GP brakes...
