VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

    Votes: 407 19.0%
  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

    Votes: 166 7.7%
  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

There goes that M16 again pointing in the wrong direction. Oh that joker :)

Then Communist Czechoslovakia exported a lot of items to North Vietnam to help in the war effort against the imperialist invaders. Hehe
Seriously though they did supply them with SEMTEX in the forefront as well as vz58, vz59, vz61 etc…. 58s and 61s were mainly intended for officers in the NVA because they were lighter and of better quality then AKs.

Danm! I was gonna do it tonight! Palinak beat me to it!

I wonder where she got that scarf from? Looks fabulous. Must be from Metro-HoChiMihn-Town Mall. And that nose job...

Wonder how many VZs were claimed by G.I.s and brought to America? I know they brought quite a bit of Aks and other Soviet firearms. If they did, then from collectors' stand point, vintage VZ would be more valuable than AKs?

cz 858

first off i like the pigtails and i never knew that the vc chick had a vz 58.... sigh. :)

anyway does anyone know how to remove the extractor from the bolt of my 858? ive noticed a pin on the underside that is spring loaded and after numerous times of poking it with the L shaped tool in the cleaning kit i cant get it off.

is this a lost cause or what!!!

any help will be appreciated

regards

drum mag pinned to 5 rounds makes it good for hitting it with a drum stick. Anyhow I have a friend in the Slovak ERT I can ask him if he knows anything about it.

Great pics! There's that zombie with VZ again. I presume those are same tactical handguard you have, right Palinak? I like that VZ's are more compact than AKs. It would be cool to have those drum mags, even if they are pinned to 5...

Yup Yup ...it would be cool I'll ask about that mag if there is more of them or if that's the exclusive one. And yes those are the same tactical hanguards. Did you get your 858 yet ?:D

I don't know, man... It looks like converted AK drum to me... I mean the same body, but probably a different neck to fit the 58.
I would like to know if it's custom (few of a kind) or production.

Palinak, can you please post some close-ups of the muzzle-break??? Thx

I never removed mine, but if I have to, I would try to clamp the bolt in the vise between 2 pcs of wood and press that plunger down with a screwdriver or such (extractor springs are very strong!). Keep it pressed as far down as it goes and slide the extractor claw down and away from the bolt and slowly release the plunger. Even better, I wouldn't be shy to ask a second person to press the plunger and keep it pressed when I remove the extractor, so the job becomes easier (and to have somebody to blame in case the plunger and the spring jump out:p )
Good luck
