VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

No pics uploaded yet but... we just held a Tactical Carbine Course with approx half of the students using AR-15's and the the others using VZ-58's. During the practical weapons test, The guys using the VZ's were just as fast performing a: Controlled pair (double tap); followed by an emergency reload; and then another shot.

Two full days of shooting without a single FTF on 6 VZ's with students who have never seen or fired a VZ-58 before. This is a very light, comfortable rifle. We also had an AK-47 on the course to compare it against... it lost (AK).

The more use and observe these in action the more I like, I'm impressed with the VZ-58.

I'll post some pics of them later.

Anyone as fast with a VZ in reload against a AR style - needs help.

I volunteer to time trial reloads and drills (with accuracy) against anyone here with a VZ - as long as I can use an AR with my rig.

That said the VZ's etc are reliable -- but I'd be interested to see them do a reliability trial alongside a Diemaco or real (factory military) Colt.

Thanks for your report Pop. It will be interesting of you have the pics and see the VZ-58 in action :D. BTW what kind was the AK that lost? and in which event did it loose?

Just fired a VZ for the first time this weekend, very nice. Extraction is, well, positive to say the least. I understand now what RobertMc meant when he said the only way it would jam on extraction is if a shell hit the ceiling and bounced back into the action.

vz 58 and M-57 tok - - - cause I can easily affoard 5k of ammo for each... along with many many many magazines for each :!:

I can also affoard to shoot them until I am very proficient with them...
don't discount the cheap gear....

Hate to say it. I have a VZ58S, a Colt AR15A2 and a M4gery. If SHTF day ever came, I'd take the VZ.

The AR is more accurate, faster mag changes, and easier to carry more ammo. It is also more fragile, more sensiteive to dirt and less then ideal frequency of cleaning.

The VZ is built like a tank and will likely never break, never malfunction, and last as close to forever as I'll ever need it to.

If goign to war for my country, I'd like the AR though as it's a fine system if you have access to a supply chain.
