VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

    Votes: 407 19.0%
  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

You must be bored playing around with this old platform Dilly!!!

Just building a nice SHTF rifle for my Daughter :) She decided this was her rifle when she was 10 now shes 15 and Im just getting it all ready for her 16th B-Day present ;)

Old platform yes, But still havent found any rifles in Canada in that price point that are actually better or even come close to being that light.

Man I was late on the vz buy in too only got my license last year and by then most of the craze was gone now it’s harder finding rails and such but got 2 vz in 223 1 in tan which was almost impossible to find got a bc tac handguard set and bone an steel set for each very happy to have a light rifle with a strong frame to hold 12ga slugs at bay

got the mounting hardware and shotty for the job but I wanna refinish it before assembling it all on the vz it be such a fun range toy

Bought a VZ as my first rifle, so far I am impressed. Anyone know after how many rounds I should do a full hot water clean? I fired 100 rounds through it and gave it a quick strip and clean without touching the barrel, I'm thinking I'll run a boresnake through it after another 100 and keep doing basic cleanings until about 500 rounds mark, keep in mind I'm only shooting Barnaul through it.

Also, Sunmoong that's a sweet rifle.

I just add after every 100 if your already just going to do a quick pull through with the bore snake you could also give the piston a quick wipe it’s only 1 pin top cover off and wipe. But to my knowledge iv only ever heard of people using the hot water full clean when running corrosive to just wash off the corrosive salts if your not running corrosive I’d stick to clp to clean it.

Am I missing something? Or is the hot water clean a regular technique people use to regularly clean their firearms when not running corrosive ammo?

Nah you're probably right, and yeah I do wipe the piston as well since it's so easy to get at.
