VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

I envision having the rear sight attached with hex screws, but this should be clearer, and I throw in some rail just because....

Now we're talking!

The rear sight/rail would be bashed by brass though.

Deckard and Clobberauras,

My pic from few posts back was just a BTT.
Those guns are some customer's and they were moded by Dlask.

The particular guns in that pic had to have some modifications
that were quite complex.
The receivers needed some serious and true machining.
The barrels are very different from the original
(they don't share one single dimension with the original contour).
Everything has to be fitted from zero.
The piston/rod are the same, but that is about the only thing
left original from the gas system.
It looks neat and simple, but the mod is quite complex.

The whole project took forever, since Joe Dlask did not want to do it,
me being the only one pushing for it (since years ago).

If Joe Dlask will try a Krinked version (which I strongly doubt),
I am sure he will start only from a vz58,
primarily due to some particular specs of the military gun,
but also because the 58 is already restricted.
I don't believe he would ever be interested in making more than "one of"
and even then, "if time permiting", if planets in the right alignment and so on.

As you noticed, there are some other people and parties
more keen in making a shorty version of these guns.

I have seen those guns in Joes shop . What lector doesnt' say is the modification he is talking about is the conversion to a removable barrel system . he developed it more than 20 years ago for the ak family . It is used by many arsenals around the world to rebuild guns with pressed -in and pinned barrel. A couple of years ago he gave that modification to joe dlask as he tried to convince joe to shorten the VZ . they exchange trade secrets all the time .
I remember my later father had an old civilian PSL that had the barrel worn out . it was modified in Argentina after the Lector method and a new barrel intalled and after that my father hunted with it for years all around South America . i shot that gun many times in my holidays there and it was very accurate .
On another matter , if you want Dlask to shorten a VZ58 , You have to be very insistent and patient .

Lookin' good! How d'you like the NEA rail in terms of removability/return to zero etc? I'm headed in the same direction (getting an NEA rail), but I'm thinking of putting a PK-A red dot on instead. Also, how do you like the height above center? I have the fixed stock on mine, so it's prob'ly a little different.

NEA rail it's tight and keep zero 100%, -recommended !
my AR collapsible stock being aligned with the rifle center (very good for recoil) this configuration forced me to use higher rings compared to what Bushnell provide (low size)
being a big guy now I don't have to overtilt my head on stock to take fast aim on target

Thats some ###y gear there Dr.Lector. If you ever feel like parting with that phat barreled action please keep me in mind. As I believe that the skinny barrels are the only down side to this platform.

Anyone know what the numbers on the mags mean? some of my mags have them, some don't. I have 32, 28 iirc. Could it be the # of the machine on which they were made?

Not sure if these have been posted yet, it is a few pictures of the VZ58 being used by Czech soldiers. One shows a solider in afghanistan with an aimpoint optic.
