Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

The supposed 'gremlin' in these rifles is that the striker will not catch on the sear. This eems to be a problem in early production Cz 858's but it appears that it has been eliminated in neweer models. If yours does have this problem then a change of trigger parts will fix the problem. The parts kit is available form Wolverine
 
I personally had the sear problem occur once or twice possibly even due to my own actions.

If it does cause chronic problems, like mentioned it's a cheap fix.
 
Some (like mine) have the CZ-858 "Gremlin," where the striker doesn't reset after some shots (or something like that) leading to a round being chambered, but when you pull the trigger... nothing happens (except a dimple in the primer.)

You need a complete overhaul of the rifle with a spare parts kit to fix that. I don't have the technical know-how to do that so I'm going to have to take it to the gunsmith.
 
Just read the other postings. Interesting to see that only a trigger parts replacement is required. In another thread, a poster advised that only a complete overhaul using the entire spare parts kit could eliminate the problem for sure.
 
I just got mine back from warranty repair. The sear wouldn't drop enough to release the striker, now she's good, and I have two of em. Wanna buy one?

Yeah, I know, I did change the trigger group. It worked for 50 rounds, then ####ed up again, that's why i sent it for free warranty repair.
 
I'm more of your 'un-trained' monkey. I'll will enlist help from local gunsmith or like Trolle_monkey1 said, send it for free repair.
I'm kinda relieved. If that's all the problem there is, and it stay fixed after repair, then I should definitely get one. Soon. Before summer ends. :)
 
The acusations of the rifle being "flimsy" are a bit misleading also. The only part you could possibly call "flimsy" would be the reciever cover. The rest of the rifle is very well made.
 
Well thats what these things were built for, and I say it's a sturdy rifle, as compared to the telescoping stock on my AR, It's not like they were built to be boat paddles.
 
Many people prefer the AKM, but the VZs at least can be obtained these days.

The stock and grip are made by a Czech manufacturer. They are on a CZH2003-S I have a sample package of stocks and grips enroute.

Hey, dead ###y! If I can get CZ858 and dress up like that, then why the hell not? Now I really gotta go get one :)
Oh, those install on CZ-858, right? Not just on VZ-58? Right? Right?
