VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

    Votes: 1,507 70.4%
  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

    Votes: 407 19.0%
  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

    Votes: 166 7.7%
  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

So, only 11 people have had any problems with the striker on the VZ858.
That's not a large amount.
I got a chance to fire one last weekend and I was impressed.

The striker problem:

The striker will not catch on the sear. This allows the striker to travel foreward with the rest of the bolt/carrier and leaves the weapon uncocked after the action has cycled

Thank you, slicknick.

Then, the way the poll options are formulated, we will find only which of the two is more prone to the above described problem, and NOT what the problem's occurence is. I cannot vote because there is no option which says "no striker problem in any of the two". Right, Deckard?

Yes, the poll needs a "no problem option".

I really would be interested in seeing how many folks have had no problems
with the striker on the VZ858 (non-restricted version).

Could the poll be updated to reflect this, please?

The wooden grip and the lower hand-guard can be ordered from wolverine with the parts kit. The upper hand guard I had to conjure up :)

Picture from the Nordic Rifle Championships Finland 2005.
This gun competed against some of the most customized, tricked out and pumped up military style rifles in the world.
Sorry if it was posted before.

Wendi & Co, suck on that unpluged, unpinned, unrestricted banana magazine.

Has anyone cut the barrel down yet?

I was wondering the same thing. I would love to get another VZ-58 and get the barrel cut down ala AKS-74U. I do not know however if the shorter barrel would put additional wear and tear on the gun or maybe even damage it.
