Did you ever consider reinforcing the lower with fiberglass? It should strengthen and stabilize the wood and resist heat better than wood alone.

I've began to contact any stock craftsmen I come across that are familiar with red rifles. This may require a bulk pre-order to get the ball rolling and minor fitting may be required due to spec diversity. Once I get some replies I will post more information.
you cant convert them , the VZ lower handguard is way longer than the AK,

Hopefully these guys have duplicators or CNC machines otherwise I know for a fact they would be doing it by hand. Which will take them too many hours of work and not enough profit. Or it would drive the cost of the product well above what they would be worth.
I too will be hoping for a good turnout from one of them tho.

I'm trying to lean towards the larger companies for this reason. I had connections to CNC shops on Vancouver Island and GP but time and career changes has made the relationships too distant. Are your templates in AutoCAD format? I can see if the shop in Victoria will run some hardwood through the machine when I head down there in July.
Eventually this summer I'd also like to pull my tools out of storage and see if I still have the hands for finishing work. If I can get a shop rigged back up, I'd like to borrow a set for dimensions. No promises, I'd need the time off work to get it all set up and get a working model.. hard to find that sort of time in the patch.
Here's my variation of dressing up my VZ like an AK. Bakelite pistol grip and work in progress stock. I snagged an SKS stock for $15 from Canadian Tire, cut it off and reshaped it slightly to fit into an adapter I made from 6061 aluminum. I'll strip and reshellac the stock to match it's original color and paint the adapter. The M4 stock just doesn't suit the VZ.

Where did you get the bakelite pistol grip from ? does it just bolt on, or is "some modifying required" lol ?

Looks great! Very creative.
So far it's been difficult sourcing a company willing to do the work for such a small market. It has also been mentioned that modifying AK butt stock to fit the mounting hardware would only leave a thin layer of material. I'll take a look tomorrow and see how we can mount it from inside the receiver.
Grip came from Brownell's. I removed the grip plate which involved grinding the spot welds off and using a small machine screw to reattach. Grip required a small amount of fitting too as it was a little wider than the receiver. Tracking down a bolt was tricky, I ended up ordering a long socket cap screw online and turned down the head to fit.
