VZ58: Optics, sights & mounts. update sept

This might sound like a strange question, but hear me out.
I am using the NEA upper handguard on my VZ:
NEACZUpperHandguard.jpg

You'll notice that the rail flares outwards at the front and back, leaving about 10 "slots" of rail space.
Normally this is more than enough, but I want to mount 2 things on it,
1) Aimpoint Micro
2) Light in a Vltor Scout mount, seen here:

As it stands I don't think there is enough space for both, as the Vltor takes up quite a bit of space for a light mount.

Question: Short of ditching the light/mount, are there any QD Micro mounts that are short enough to fit onto the limited rail space available?
I tried the Aimpoin LRP, and while an excellent mount, it's too long to fit on the small amount of rail real estate. Any other ideas?????

Have you thought of using a barrel clamp rail? Like this:

I use one on my 858 and will post pics later tonight, it works great and you can get the exact angle you want for your light. I have thousands of round through mine and no issues.

Thanks for the responses.
I should have mentioned that:
a) This is going on a 11.75" Carbine, so there is no exposed barrel on which to use a barrel clamp. I have the NEA barrel clamp on my regular 15 inch VZ.
b) I do have the NEA upper and lower handguards on the 11.75", but I can't mount the Vltor Scout light mount on the side rail because it bumps the light up against the upper handguard. I've tried a couple of other light mounts and same thing. The closest I came was with a VTAC Light Mount, but even that was barely able to hang on to the side rail because the light was being pushed by the upper handguard.

Ah I get you now. Your issue is how you are mounting your light in the mount. Push the light as far forward as you can to clear the gas block. I have run the light with the mount clamped around the tail cap with no problems, which gives you tons of clearance. Doing that you should be able to run it on the side rail, I had a similar issue before I went to the barrel clamp.

I'll have to take a pic of my actual setup, as it's not the front of the light bumping up against the side of the gas block, but the rings of the Vltor mount itself that are pressing up against the upper handguard and tilting the mount such that it cannot clamp onto the side rail.

As a result, that is why I went to mount it to the top rail (of upper handguard). It fits there fine, but doesn't leave enough room for the Micro mount I've tried so far.

I'd like to have both the light and Micro mounted(for maximum tacticoolness factor, of course), but this is forcing me to choose one.

This is you solution then, for side mounted:

Anybody here recommend a brake for the CZ858 NR model? Do you need to get your barrel threaded as well or is it put on by a screw pressing onto the barrel?

I know a few people asked, and I wondered myself, if the Burris AR332 will go on the side mount and not get in the way of the ejection posrt. Well, I bit the bullet and took the chance on the Burris, happy to say it fits on the side mount fine, and after running 40 rounds through it the other day, no issues with spent casings hitting the scope. I wouldn't chance running the sunsheild on it though, by the looks of things you'd be just asking to get struck. Pretty happy with the decision to get it!

If the scope extend beyond the picatinny rail it will get hits. If it is flush with the rail no problem. Which is in your case.
I have the same side mount on my vz58 compact sporter 7.5 inches with an aimepoint.

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has issues holding zero with the zahal upper for-end with optics? Will buy aluminum soon if thats the case.
