Been sitting on this a while...

I have an idea for a 58 mount that would...
A) Be rock solid.
B) require no alterations to the rifle
C) allow the use of a back up sighting system
D) not involve the hand guard or gas system cover
E) lefty and righty friendly

Downsides..
A) would only allow the use of smaller optics (micro, doctor..)etc...

This was to be my next project after the T97 rail....but I've been too chicken sh!t to spend any more money on this game after the T97 fiasco...

Edit: I'm pretty positive it would work, but one never knows until the prototype is on the rifle...

Hopefuly M14Doctor has some time to help me work on a new prototype rail I have drawn up for this rifle. I can't talk any more about it or I think he will casterate me but it should be in the testing phase late next month.

How about chopping off the overhang on a scout mount to be used with a one ring mount? That way it would be short enough to allow the front guard to come off without removing the scope mount ...

As long as you don't mind losing your rear iron sight, it works fine.

I chopped a buddy's Scout Mount a couple weeks ago so she could run a Burris FastFire.

anyone know if this scope mount ever went into production? Is it available?

I believe that they are in the proto type phase of developement and they are putting it threw an extensive "field testing" to see how it would hold up. But all B.S. aside, probaly before the end of next year it will be released for sale.

Interesting... I hereby volunteer my services for field testing. :)

I am most interested in this. it pretty much exactly what is listed under
vz58's news section. it was on a forum about new optics that the czech military is testing...

Soooo why dont canadian retailers update us on how things are going instead of leaving us holding our dicks in our hands?

I think it's because they don't know, remember just because its our latest and greatest, they still have devote 50% of there day explaining " whats the best hunting ammo' and "how much is a box of 30 cal shells these days.............holy crap in 1972 they wore only half that" I wish they had time to falow up on all these things, but I think we as a hole in the firearms comunity manopilize a lot of there time. Im sure every one of us is guilty of asking for the owner of our local store when his toby was totaly capable of helping us. Just my opinion.

Looks like the rail is mounted onto something thats part of the butt stock???

Oh! That rail!
AFAIK, that sucker is the official Czech military one. It's, I think, welded onto the receiver. My impression is that they only outfit a limited number of rifles with it for night-vision and maybe designated marksmen roles.
