WARNING: Critical flaw in FNS pistol

Hmmm, maybe that is why they put them on sale/dropped price, a couple years ago! I had a .40 and sold it, it just didn't fit my hand right. So will FN send the striker or do people have to send the firearm in for work?

Honestly, the set of circumstences are so hard to replicate in real life, and the simple fact that the "issue" happens only when you have your finger already pressing the trigger fully to the rear.... I mean come on, if you did that it means you were 100% intending to discharge a round to begin with.

It's not like the gun is litterally waiting to shoot your ass by itself like the P320 did.

I watched the video thrice.

I tried to replicate the two conditions illustrated, on my FNS pistols, unloaded.

None of my pistols “fired”.

I tested each of my pistols, several times under each of the two conditions. The alleged accidental or unintended discharges did not occur. Yes they were unloaded.

Would it have made any difference whether the pistols were loaded or unloaded?

I’m keeping them.

It's basically a slamfire. You may be alright with it but it's not supposed to be that way. I personally don't want a gun that I have to worry about, even in the most unlikely of circumstances. Anyway, my story has a happy ending because I got a P10C to replace it and that's been swell.

I may speak or write to them about the issue and ask them to upgrade the firing pin.

There's a recall page on FN's site. Pop your serial number in there to see if you're affected.

45,000 rounds thru 2 of these units, both used in competition, holstered repeatedly, run hard and put away wet,,never had a single issue. I may contact FN or the Canadian distributor for replacement strikers,,but I'm definitely not getting rid of them.

Just checked, and both mine are affected by the safety recall, I'm going to call FN in the states today and see how they intend to deal with Canadian customers. I'm thinking it's probably going to be a pain in the ass going thru the Canadian distributor,, anyone know who that is? If possible I'm just going to get them to ship me the new strikers and have them installed myself,, but I bet it takes forever to get the damn things :(

That was my plan if I didn't get the return done.

Tried to replicate both conditions with mine and it was able to fire out of battery, contacted fn after inputting my serial too see what the next steps are. But at the same time dietz is right it would be quite hard to duplicate under normal use because i don't press my slide up against objects or keep it loaded anywhere but unless its pointed down range. I can understand the concern for people who carry but for me it's really no big deal and if it's too much hassle to deal with fn ill just deal with it.
Still a fun starter pistol aside from its mechanical defects

Lee3444 the issues is not that you never have the gun loaded unless it is pointed down range. The issue is the only time you don't and the gun goes off. Murphy lives and he lives in all of us.

FN should have recalled all of the pistols and had them either corrected or offered a replacement. It looks to me like when FN found out about the issues they just quit making the gun and when their dealers found out the gun had issues, they collectively just put them on sale to unsuspecting gun owners. If someone were to get hurt due to the corporate decision I hope they get their butts sued off.

It would be interesting to hear what the Canadian Distributor was told, if anything, and what prompted the gun going on sale.

Take Care

Bob

Agreed
Its pretty disappointing that it took so long for fn to release a statement on this since the Baltimore police department were having problems with the fns line of pistols since 2014 and its equally disappointing that not a single retailer or dealer gave anyone a heads up after the safety bulletin was issued. I bought mine a year before fn issued that statement so i would have no way of knowing this was an issue until i saw this post

Fully agree.
