WARNING: Critical flaw in FNS pistol

Update!!

Just exchanged a few emailed with Grech Outdoors. They are sending out the new strikers (I have 2 FNS9s) at no charge or any other fees. Just have to provide Make, Model, and Serial number of the firearm.

Since it's free of charge, might as well take advantage of the upgraded striker.

Easy Peasy!!!

No doubt. I think the people hoping for $350 9mms on the EE are going to be disappointed...

I am actually disappointed myself hahah, I was hoping to jump on some discounted FNSs. I'm sure there may some guys out there that will part with them though. Time will tell

This happened once with my Glock 17 Gen 5. I had some of that cheap Winchester Forged steel cased 9mm. I was just shooting through a 10 round magazine when after a few rounds the trigger locked up in the forward position. I noticed the slide was back about 1/8" so I pushed the slide forward and it fired the round with the trigger still in the forward position. Before anyone asks yes the firearm was still pointed at the target downrange. This is the only issue I have had with my Glock 17 Gen 5 in approximately 5000 rounds.

I’ve read this again. This issue sounds more serious than the FNS issue. This accidental discharge was caused by an instance when the slide did not go all the way into battery. Not common with Glocks but may still happen with a dry pistol or under loaded ammo or a some dirt on the rails. Even a tap rack maneuver may have caused this pistol to fire as the “tap” may induce the slide to go into full battery, thence the AD.

If it happened once, it can happen again under similar circumstances.....and I recently acquired one of these Gen 5’s:-(

I think it should be reported formally to Glock so they can look into it.

That being said I would not feel confident carrying a striker fired pistol with a round in the chamber. Sig P226 or Beretta 92FS any day of the week.

Right now it's a sample size of one. Whereas the FNS issue is known across various agencies and countries.

That’s the reason my Ruger P series pistols aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

If ever CC is allowed in our beloved country, my striker pistols will be carried Chamber empty. Next to useless.

This flys in the face of thousands of striker fired guns being carried safely with a round in the chamber. Assuming the gun has no design flaws, and I know of several that don't, the simple carrying the gun with a round in the chamber is not an issue. The guns have firing pin blocks for a reason.

I don't have a dog in the show so I really don't care but to the fellow with the Gen 5 Glock, you should know the Gen 5 Glock has a new trigger group, frame and slide completely different than the previous generations. Some would say it is a new pistol that looks like the former designs. If you are sure the AD happened as you describe I would have the gun looked at by a Glock armorer at the very least and advise Glock of what happened. Your gun should not have done what it did.

My PPQ M2 Five inch went full auto on me at a match. The local Walther importer was kind enough to replace the sear block on MY dime or more to the point about $150 time I paid postage. There is no lifetime warranty with the PPQ in Canada. These guns are made with safety in mind. When they do something that they should not do then something is wrong with the particular gun. When it happens to others then maybe there is a problem the design or certain parts.

Take Care

ps The PPQ in question has worked properly since the sear block replacement and my PPQ Match has had no issues. Great guns but sometimes even the best of guns can have an issue.

Well after what happened to me with the Glock 17 Gen 5, I have lost confidence in striker fired pistols. At least with a Beretta 92FS it is impossible for the round in the chamber to fire with the decocker/safety engaged.
