Weatherby vanguard 2. What do you guys think.

I just bought a vanguard2 kryptek in 30/06. Haven't fired it yet but hoping it's a decent shooter. Was hoping it would come with detachable mag but no such luck.
Put a cheap vortex diamondback 4x12 on it (I know cheaping out on optics is a no no) but funds were limited!
 
For those in Eastern Ontario, "That Hunting and Fishing Store" in Richmond, ON has a no tax sale until the end of November on Weatherby rifles. Not affiliated in anyway, other than being a customer.

I picked one up this past September because I had a hankering for another .243 Win in my life, plus the wife got her hunter safety this year and I wanted something she could shoot without getting beat up by excess recoil. I purchased the combo that Cabela`s was selling with scope and case included and proceeded to replace the cheap Simmon`s scope with a Leupold 2-7 vx1 in Leupold rings and bases. Worked up a quick load with a 90 gr Accubond and took it to the range to sight in, so far it averages 1.5 moa at 100 yards! The groups form a perfect triangle so I think it will tune up nicely when I have a chance to do more load development. Due to health reasons the wife was unable to get a chance to use it this year, but I used it in area 36 to take a whitetail doe on the second deer tag! The doe traveled all of 20 yards with a good lung shot....I think for the cost of this rifle it is one of the best deals to be found in a new out of the box rifle out there!

Good value for an entry level rifle. If you intend to hunt for many years and you are anything like myself, you will likely upgrade to something more refined later on.
 
The Vanguard S2 is anything but an " entry level " rifle in my opinion.
Its well put together, smooth functioning and superbly accurate if not more so than some of the higher end much more expensive show pieces.
I'll pack my S2 in a saddle scabbard on an Elk hunt or in a gun boot on a quad when Moose hunting or slung over my back in a driving rain, something I would never think of doing to my Mannlicher Schoenauers or a couple Schultz & Larsens or a Sauer 375 I parted with.
Its an excellent choice for a serious hunter, perhaps not for one wanting to make a fashion statement ...
 
I just bought one a couple of weeks ago. I have only shot it for break in, about 30 rnds. For the first 15 rnds I cleanded often, but the last 15 were without cleaning. When I cleanded it at home there was zero copper fouling so it has a very smooth bore. The throat is short, which allows for minimum bullet jump before contacting rifling. The chamber headspace is very tight. The trigger lets off, after a light first stage, at 3 lbs even with no creep. The stock feels good. Three position safety. Good recoil pad. Heavy, well made, flat bottomed receiver machined from bar stock.

While I haven't proven accuracy yet I think I've got a good rifle.
 
I bought one a few months back in 257 weatherby and have been extremely happy with it. It shoots just under an inch with the cheapest Weatherby ammo i could get. I'm looking forward to reloading for it and seeing what i can get my groups down to. If i had any real complaint about it is that its a bit on the heavy side.

What cartridge is yours chambered in ? RJ
 
OP, sorry for the highjack... :) I have posted once in this thread, but I know nothing of Weatheryby rifles. I am, however, a newbie but committed hunter. I shot my first buck with my M44 in 7.62x54r, but I want a dedicated hunting rifle in . 270. Of the three rifles, what would you select....Ruger American, Savage Axis II, or a Vanguard Ii
