I am looking to find out the actual weight of a vanguard S2 with 24 inch barrel. According to their website there's absolutely no weight difference between a 22-in barrel and a 24 inch barrel which makes absolutely zero sense. I am in the market for a 25 -06. I've always been a big Tikka fan however the Tikka only comes in a 22 inch barrel and the S2 comes in a 24 which the 25-06 shines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Wby Vangaurds 1's or 2's are going to be hvy any way you slice it when compared to other rifles of similar configurations.
That being said they will shoot and shoot well 99% of the time right out of the box.
This has been my experience with them.
Tight Groups.
Rob
My personal experience is that they are balanced pretty good (24 inch barrels)
Tight groups "yes" but once you heat up the barrel you will get flyers - people need to be aware that it's a hunting gun - so your 1st couple shots are always on point. With the 25-06 you will likely get a flyer on the third shot when you shoot in succession without having the barrel cool down.
Vanguards are about a pound heavier, less recoil with larger cartridges, but not as light to carry. I much prefer the Tikka trigger, and having four T-3s, and four Vanguards, the Tikkas have been a bit better accuracy wise.
Ok so this is a longshot but gonna try anyways. Does anyone in the CGN community know of any sales that are happening on the Weatherby's right now?
Thanks Joel, I really appreciate your input. If a fella was patient there are deals to be found on the Vanguard's. Doesn't seem that way with Tikkas
check out Prophet River, search rifles, then Howa, then special buys. Maybe not the highest fashion model these days but good usable rifles
Have a couple clover-leaf targets hanging from a .308
That's excellent, I really appreciate you doing that. The 24" 270 Vanguard in a synthetic stock just arrived, my bathroom scales say it is 7.3 lb, I immediately put it in a Bell and Carlson stock and it weighed the same.
I had taken a serious look at the V2s awhile back.
The only thing I couldn’t wrap my head around was some of their proprietary and large Cals were showing 26” length at the threading for muzzle brake. Adding on another 1-1/2-2” for their SST Brake was a deal breaker on my end unfortunately.
Yes, I could’ve gone with a non braked model, but the Cals I looked at were all braked models. Just couldn’t see myself wandering around with almost 27-28” of barrel for the environments I hunt in..
