Weatherby vanguard S2

There are definitely stories and pictures of Tikkas with a broken bolt where the key is cut out. Given what it takes for that to happen I dont sweat it either

I am looking to find out the actual weight of a vanguard S2 with 24 inch barrel. According to their website there's absolutely no weight difference between a 22-in barrel and a 24 inch barrel which makes absolutely zero sense. I am in the market for a 25 -06. I've always been a big Tikka fan however the Tikka only comes in a 22 inch barrel and the S2 comes in a 24 which the 25-06 shines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wby Vangaurds 1's or 2's are going to be hvy any way you slice it when compared to other rifles of similar configurations.
That being said they will shoot and shoot well 99% of the time right out of the box.
This has been my experience with them.
Tight Groups.

My personal experience is that they are balanced pretty good (24 inch barrels)
Tight groups "yes" but once you heat up the barrel you will get flyers - people need to be aware that it's a hunting gun - so your 1st couple shots are always on point. With the 25-06 you will likely get a flyer on the third shot when you shoot in succession without having the barrel cool down.

Vanguards are about a pound heavier, less recoil with larger cartridges, but not as light to carry. I much prefer the Tikka trigger, and having four T-3s, and four Vanguards, the Tikkas have been a bit better accuracy wise.

Perhaps not if it's been floated.

I’ve had multiples of each and both are great accurate guns.
In 25/06 both can have a plastic detachable magazine.
Only the Vanguard offers a floor plate.
2” of barrel is moot, if speed was the #1 factor a 257 would be being discussed.
Aftermarket options are pretty much a level playing field now.
Triggers stand out; the Tikka has a crisp single stage trigger which is very nice, the S2 has a great two stage trigger that I personally prefer but the S1 has a less than wonderful single stage trigger (gritty/creep).
Tikka is definitely lighter, the Vanguard to me is normal weight or what I think a rifle should weigh; I don’t think of it as heavy.
Lighter weight in my opinion is not always the right answer; it increases felt recoil and many light guns tame this by adding a muzzle brake which I do not like to hunting with.
The Tikka depending the cartridge is just on the edge of “just right” and “too light”, the Vanguard…I’ve never had to give its mass any real thought.
Factory stocks differ, the Vanguard is something I preferred over the Tikka. They’re both Tupperware but the Vanguard feels less so to me.
If stainless steel is a prerequisite the Tikka would be in the lead as they are easily found, the stainless Vanguards less so. In my experience both after about the same level of corrosion resistance.
I sold my Tikka’s and kept the Vanguards but that wasn’t by design and could change over time, both are very good guns.

Ok so this is a longshot but gonna try anyways. Does anyone in the CGN community know of any sales that are happening on the Weatherby's right now?

How can any one generalize like that
a Howa/Vanguard in a Hogue over-moulded stock or a H-S precision composite?
Real-world barrel-action weights with similar profiles

mike t, would like to help with real world weights, but mine has several add-ons as it sits so not apples to apples

check out Prophet River, search rifles, then Howa, then special buys. Maybe not the highest fashion model these days but good usable rifles
Have a couple clover-leaf targets hanging from a .308

The 24" 270 Vanguard in a synthetic stock just arrived, my bathroom scales say it is 7.3 lb, I immediately put it in a Bell and Carlson stock and it weighed the same.

I had taken a serious look at the V2s awhile back.

The only thing I couldn’t wrap my head around was some of their proprietary and large Cals were showing 26” length at the threading for muzzle brake. Adding on another 1-1/2-2” for their SST Brake was a deal breaker on my end unfortunately.

Yes, I could’ve gone with a non braked model, but the Cals I looked at were all braked models. Just couldn’t see myself wandering around with almost 27-28” of barrel for the environments I hunt in..

So remove the brake and install a thread protector.

The slight extra weight of a weatherby and a brake are really nice shooting anything with some kick off a bench. Like said above, remove the brake for hunting where it’s not needed, or wanted.
