Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 Kryptek Typhon

I was looking at them at Wholesale today in Langley, I was after a 223 Remington. The only ones they had had skulls all over the stock, I ended up with the Savage lightweight hunter instead, it was about $100 more but I like the wood stock.

I was at Wholesales in Edmonton today, I pick up a Weatherby TR Tyohon in .308 awesome deal. :) But, however...the heavy barrel doesn't came free-float. :(

I was disappointed with that when I grabbed mine as well. But according to the interwebs everybody is pretty impressed with the factory bedding. I can see it being more of an issue with the lighter barrel. Must get back to scope shopping now...

Apparently they aren't meant to be freefloated

Directly from their FAQ on their website

"We have found through our testing that barrels having a smaller outside diameter than our #3 contour require upward pressure to help stabilize the barrel for increased accuracy. Our free floated barrels have enough rigidity in the barrel for them to be free floated."

I just free floated with the Bell and Carlson Tactical.

A 20MOA steel mount from NEAR Manufacturing...NEAR makes AWESOME mounts for Weatherby!.

I just bought one to give as a gift. .243 win. WSS sale price was about $470 less $75.00 discount if you spend $500. The Weatherby S2 is the best of all the budget rifles.

I picked up a Typhon TR .223 at Wholesale in Winnipeg, I think they said they had 4 in stock at that time.
The stock is not my favorite, I actually like the regular Vanguard stock with the grippy panels and palmswell better, but I'm gonna' try out the factory set-up when it warms up a bit. -30c when I got up today... brrrr...
I know the factory setup is not free-floated, but that's how its supposed to be. They guarantee under 1moa, so I'm curious to try it out as delivered.
I wasn't impressed with the magazine when I took the rifle apart to clean and oil it. It just sort of sits together in 3 pieces, you have to fiddle with the little spacer quite a bit to get it all back together, but maybe I just didn't have the technique figured out..

Maybe I'm an idiot, but after disassembling the bolt to clean it, it took me freaking 10 minutes to reassemble it! For the life of me, I couldn't get it to turn! It finally slid in smoothly out of the blue after 10 minutes, any tips on how to do this more easily in the future?

also, is the 0.223 a short or long action?
