Well airsoft stocks

Have some of you guys seen the factory plastic stock that comes with the Savage 22? They are pretty well mush already!

Since we can't get the evil named "Tacticool" from boyds this could be an interesting option.

I've got a B mag savage 17 WSM, its pretty mushy as well, as per the "can't get the boyds tacticool stock" claim, your wrong, old news, they changed the name to Varmit pro, you can order them all day long if you want. Lots of threads out there about this.

Haha, all it takes is a name change, nice! Sort of like the ATRS Modern Hunter, NR goodness.

I bet if ARs came in pink with sparkles and renamed Barbie’s Fun Toy and AK’s were renamed Fun with My Little Ponies..........no, never mind, not even going to bother continuing that train of thought.

well, I had a look at some of the vendors in those links, the pricing was fairly typical for canadian retailers, some of the similar versions of other brands were upwards of $500 on one of those sites, airsoftgi.com in the states has a sale on right now, ht tp://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=9798 here's a broken link but basically this costs $112 or so with the discount, with shipping it was around $150CAD (before UPS screws me with brokerage fees) so I pulled the trigger and ordered one to have a look at it. If it doesn't have the bedding block or is exceptionally lame I will sell it locally, maybe on kijiji at a CGN EE discount (more then I paid for it) :p

I don't know much but I have read this....apparently Airsoft rifles experience a "double recoil" that is significantly worse than the single recoil of a .223.
Just saying'!
I think your getting a piston pellet gun mixed with airsoft. They have a double rocoil which can ruin scope not built for them. Either way, Nowhere near the recoil of a 223.

picked one up from airsoft GI to give it a try, here's a picture of it just dropped in the stock

So here's the savage 17 WSM sitting in the AICS airsoft stock...

Im gonna have to do a fair bit of work to get it to work right, the "bedding block is multiple pieces and looks to be steel, right now the plan is to weld the pieces in the fore stock together when I have time to get it to sit in the stock, but I will also have to figure out how to get it to feed, probably gonna have to use a different magazine as the rotary mag is a bit wide. Whenever I get it finished I'll make a new thread.

As a note, black friday it was about $112 US, to the door with customs about $175, so basically for the price point it compares to a boyds to the door, thought the boyds will be a drop in and go.

I need to change my bmag stock too. Hope it works well! how does the overall quality feel?

The quality? so-so, actually I like and dislike it, I can say whoever designed the thing put some time into engineering at as the pieces fit very firmly, there is some considerable steel for the hinge assembly and the"bedding block" and the steel for the hinge assembly fits very tightly with no wobble between it and the stock pieces, and the two pieces of plastic which "clam shell" the internals are tight and use roll steel roll pins to align and are very tight. But, the steel doesn't run all the way through to the butt (I'm debating wether i want to correct that, and the cheek piece uses a plastic assembly in the stock to grip the pins with metal in it to clamp on, should have been steel right through but it doesn't have any problems holding position. The tri rail bipod piece has a steel insert in the stock to allow quick removal but that doesn't run all the way through the stock, and has a bit of a wobble at the junction of the two metal pieces (just need a little O ring to get rid of the wobble there).

It has a rear monopod that is a bit wobbly as well, I think that can be fixed fairly easily though with glueing the long internal nut to one side of the clamshell, otherwise is functional.

Honestly I think it shouldn't have issue with a .243 mounted in it, especially if you added some steel internally to make it a full length block right to the butt pad, I guess my only concern would be that although the section of the rear stock which doesn't have steel block through it if quite beefy to handle recoil, it may not hold up as well as a regular synthetic stock in sub zero temperatures.

I'll post more pictures of it and it's internals at a later date when I have things together.

Kind of a thread revival, this is pretty much how it sits now

Anyways, it wasn't necessarily a quick or easy thing to do, but I got to say the AICS stock has grown on me, a lot, I'm contemplating doing this to another rifle one day, perhaps that norinco .223, but I really like carrying the thing around in a backpack with the stock folded compared to other rifles, and it is just so fun to shoot, I still need to get a magazine figured out to feed it properly, but will probably try and get one of those AR17 mags imported up and modify the stock for it at some point, but this is definately a really nice stock for shooting laying down or on a bench, not for standing shots, but I like the format for something that is specific to laying down for and further out, might be great for a coyote rig if someone can find a cheap bolt action .223 for a project.

Just thought I'd finalize the thread after a year or so of shooting it, BTW the WSM seems to be capable of 1"-1.5" groups at 100 yards depending on the wind and if I'm doing my part.

I have a friend who has a lathe and milling machine, I built the aluminum pucks and bought a piece of carbon fiber tube to sleeve the barrel, the scope is a millet LRS with the 35mm tube, I don't have any pics with the new bolt handle but I can try and get some, basically just built it out of aluminum though and it's more of a conventional style and much tighter against the stock with more clearance to the scope.

It does look sweet but I should have specified (pics and info on how you modded the stock).

Thanks man

I'll have to pull it apart sometime, but as part of the rear "sleeve", the rear one has a block that saddles under the barrel/action, there is a hole drilled in it for the actions foreward screw/mount pin, that is basically a bolt extension, this aluminum block is epoxied to the carbon sleeve and barrel, and acts as a spacer to get it to sit the right height off the inner alloy chassis.

The rear of the rifle, on the B mag, the mounting point is a threaded hole through part of the trigger assembly, it is some sort of cheap metal that stripped, I up sized the bolt to 1/4"-20 and drilled and tapped it for an oversized bolt, the chassis was just notched with drilling and filing, then a piece of aluminum was epoxied (JB welded) into place, then the Bmag was given a light coat of grease, and bedded into place with some more JB weld. You can see the bolt handle I made for it too, it's quite simple, though not as glorious as some of the oversized lathed bolt knobs out there, but less awkward then the stock bolt handle, in the last picture it's sharing the soapbox with my old lakefield MK II that I've molested a bit as well.

Despite all the pieces of aluminum and JB weld, I would consider this a much more rigid stock then the original, though thats not hard to beat, but at least as stout as any other rimfire I have I suppose.

Woah, haven't visited this thread in a while, nice progress! I can't get over how awesome that looks! Seems like a huge pain in the buttocks to do though, good on you for getting it done! Next project is to get a 10/22 to fit into an MP5SD body.

This would be a cool body to use as well:

Surprised to see Sunray's name in pink.

That font of useless, and sometimes dangerous, mis-information?

Happened about a month ago. YoDave posted a celebratory thread about it, that lasted a half day before the mods removed the thread. Not sure what pushed Sunray over the edge, but it probably should have happened a long time ago.

Haha, well, that's why I'm surprised. He was usually the kind of guy that would post and dash, never bothering to read or follow up to replies to his non-sensical posts. Perfect example, this thread, lol!
