It's going to be a .243 Winchester, I need a new moose and bear rifle. :stirthepot2:

Not sure what I want though, I thought Sako 85 but their just too much money. I can't really justify spending $2000 on one rifle, though I have always wanted to try one. I like the Ruger rifle, but the CDL is a nice looking rifle too. I had good luck with Tikka, and probably would just buy a Model 70 Sporter if they came in that chambering, which unfortunatly they don't. Don't really feel like a Featherweight but maybe I suppose. I figure I'll give myself about $1000 to spend on the rifle, a sporter style, no heavy varmint rig. So what do you think? If you had $1000 to drop on a .243 what rifle would you choose?

There are so many really nice used classics out there in your price range. I recently saw a full stock Husqvarna in .243 - but missed out on it - for $800. Maybe a Browning Low-Wall - they are super handy and you won't see yourself coming and going at the shooting range. Perhaps a Steyr-Mannlicher Luxus L - although that would probably cost you a bit more than $1000 - but certainly less than a Sako 85. For a new rifle I'd think of a Kimber. Or a new Cooper - but then I'd go with a .250 Savage....:)

While not a huge fan of any piece of ruger, Clay had a beautifully stocked #1 on his list of pictures.

If I was going to buy a cartridge unsuitable for hunting, I would get it in an unsuitable rifle :stirthepot2:

Seriously, I got a #1 in 9.3x74R and now plan on getting several more. Think about the neat combo.

Look into a Savage. Doesn't really matter which model. Epp's wants $583.20 for a 22", blued, detachable mag, 11FCNS(Hunter) with the synthetic stock. Lots of money left for a good scope.

The CDL is one of the nicest looking Remingtons in awhile, and I'm not just saying that because I have a CDL stocked .243.;)
If price is an issue, I really don't know how you can beat a $499 tupperware Vanguard.

I thought about that since I've owned two in the past and both were very accurate, however:
Sale Price: $649.88
Originally $749.95

They seem to have bumped the price. And even $650 on sale is too high for a Howa, considering they used to be $500. Not much more and a guy could pick up a nice Model 70, which I really do prefer.

$650 is for the stainless one. Change it to blued and its $499.
