Well sporterized Enfields

Hmm... I should post mine in here but it’s for well sporterized. LOL. Mines not terrible but someone has slapped black paint on the receiver and some kind of paint or wash on the Monte Carlo stock. I’m thinking of sprucing it up a bit so I started taking a closer look at it but I’m not exactly sure what I have. Definitely a 1943 No. 4 with a Z4*** Serial number. BSA? It has ENGLAND stamped underneath the serial number on the butt socket. No markings on left side of receiver but appears to have PH stamped on the right side of butt socket. Did Parker Hale mark their sporters this way? The barrel looks like it could be from a No. 1 which I understand would have been a lot of work or they installed the rear sight from a No. 1 on the barrel. Front sight is a No. 1 or 4 that has been chopped and soldered onto the barrel. Barrel cut and crowned at 20.5”. I’ll try and post a pic or two later.

Are there any good webpages or resources for factory sporterized Lee Enfields?

Almost forgot, someone tried to make the magazine look like on of those nice 5 rd ones like PH supplied with theirs. Chopped a 10 rd and brazed the bottom to it. It’s been painted to hide the ugly gobs of brazing and holes burned into it from the heat.

I have had a few Parker Hale No. 4 conversions and one No. 1 conversion - that PH stamp on right rear sounds correct. Doubt very much that Parker Hale responsible for most other things you describe - shortened barrel, the sights, etc. I think the PH No. 4 Custom had a rear sight installed on the barrel - the other three versions appear to use the "battle sight" at the rear of the receiver. Pictures of the ads for the PH No. 4 and No. 1 conversions are available on the inter web...

Yes I tend to agree that it may have been a PH conversion at one point but has been altered since then. Looking into it more I believe I have a No.4 barrel that’s had a No.1 Sight added to it. It doesn’t enclose the barrel and there is no stud? for the forearm. The buttstock wood doesn’t go the full width of the butt socket and the Monte Carlo cheek piece doesn’t look as nicely blended as the PH pictures I can find.

I will likely mess with the rifle a bit in an attempt to make it a little nicer looking but I’m already running into problems. Williams discontinued their 5D rear sight for the Lee Enfield and it’s my only option for a receiver mounted sight as mine has had the charger bridge and sight base removed.

One of my past grandfathers creations, chambered in .303. Its been nearly 30 years since iv shot it, i really should show it some more daylight some day. Feast your eyes

That is a thing of beauty!! Fabulous work!!

I’m really liking this little carbine. What’s the barrel length?

M14 front sight on custom base?

Cjdawe’s rifle is stunning!

The barrel is a 14" Shilen unit that I profiled from a straight taper tube. The front sight base came off of an old Mauser actioned Schultz & Larsen target rifle and the
front sight be a Smith's Foundry National Match M1 Garand unit.
