Good for you, 357 Maximum! It appears you had a lot of fun and experience with various cartridges, especially with the Ruger #1's. There is one in your list that I'm seriously thinking of building, the 300 H&H. I as well owned one in the Ruger #1, however this time it will be in a bolt action, it's just an awesome cartridge! I'm leaning towards purchasing a Sako for my build, but which one?

Thanks

Always enjoyed the unusual.

Though relatively common now I've owned 6.5x55 and 9.3x57 for over 40 years

Doublegun is the go to guy regarding Sako's

I have 3 Sako Customs but their actions are a bit small for use.

AI custom 222 and 6x45 and a l461 custom 6x45

A custom Sako 300 H&H would be very cool.

oooh, time to rant: ;) Do you mean by forgotten, those things now obsolete, increasingly rare or ignored by mainstream... complete lists of each will be longest, long, and lengthening and with differences.

256win, anything from Charles Newton.
Anything that is, or risks being squeezed out because ad campaigns are indoctrinating the consumer with a desire for something not really new or better.

Other than nostalgia, why would someone acquire a NEW rifle in 44-40 or 300 Savage when they have been superceded by the 44 Rem Mag and 308 Win?

Because the 300Savage is better for the same reason that the 308win is claimed to be better than the 30-06SPRG.

Meh, most listed here are well worth being forgotten, so I will nominate the 30-30. Who under the age of 85 buys 30-30 any more? Yet its a sweet little round thats quite good.

Funny in the crazy posting here no one was touting the 30carb or 7X57. Try finding much ammo for either these days. Let alone SPs for the 30carb.

I like your thinking, but still think it can be forgotten, but a sentimental favourite. Wish someone still sold them.

Why not 30/30? I was really wanting one of the new Winchester model 94s in 30/30 made in the Japanese miroku factory. Simply due to how many varieties of the cartridge are on the market and the price of a box. While doing some research it seems all the Winchesters I'm finding are chambered in hard to get and expensive cartridges like 38-55win , 32 winspl, 25-35win, 44-40win, 45-70gov etc... Which seems to be expensive compared to 30/30 and much much harder to find lacking in both variety and in general overall availability.
