What are you guys using for coyotes this year?

6mm Rem. 55 grain ballistic tips @ 4000 FPS.
.223 75 grain AMAX @ 2850 FPS.

I like rabbit guts and I have a wounded rabbit mouth reed that is effective.

Savage axis in 204 ruger
Bushnell elite 6x-24x
40gr Nosler
I've yet to hit one with this bullet anyone have any experience with it or any other 40 gr?

I saw a nice greyish one today and would go after that one as a keeper and use my 17FB. Targets would be getting a 75gr V-Max @ 3735fps or a 100gr Nosler BT @ 3232fps out of my .257AI.

Got my first one ever this afternoon. Drove to side of huge empty grassy meadow while looking for deer sign and saw it running across the field.. Hopped out and put a 480gr hard cast flat point in my 45-70 and took aim. Gave it about a foot lead and gave it a foot of elevation. It was running left to right...huge boom... 480's at 1700 fps are fun :). Coyote somersaults and crashes.

Hop back in with buddy and drive over.... 180 yards and right through middle of the chest breaking both front legs and hitting lots of important stuff.

I wouldn't bet on me pulling it off twice though...

Awesome, those are the best shots. Then you get back in with buddy and shrug it off like it was nothing.... ;)

Tikka T3 Varmint in .204
4-16x 44mm Vortex Viper HS
35gr and 40gr Berger bullets going about 3900fps.

Using my CS24B Foxpro Ecaller which works like a charm!

Killed 11 so far this year with this combo

375 h&h if they come near my chickens...22-250 with a vmax if I'm in the field looking for them...hoping to get a 50bmg one day to vaporize them. killed so many this year i lost count. Gotta love central Ontario.

Winchester model 70 small action 223 wssm 55gr fmj loaded to about 3500 fps I revenue hunt and own a taxidermy company thus the need for fmj, for the first 20 years though a martini in 218k bee and a ruger no1 in 218 bee served me well, but bloody heavy on a long hump a max v max zmax zombie ammo anything with a poly tip is bound to mess up a good hide a partition also but alot more on the inside. Never tried the varmit grenade yet or any other frangible bullets, a good Solid bullet well placed usually does the trick if I'm revenue hunting ideally if it can be properly done the pumpkin shot prefered anything else it's behind the shoulder. I prefer using 55gr FMJ boattail from squirrels up to big honkin wolves I've never felt under gunned

T3 in 223.
FoxPro spitfire
Mojo critter decoy
Vmax ammo
Primo telescopic shooting mono pod
Red field glass

can anyone recommend some good snow shoes?

If you are trying to save the pelts, you will likely not be happy with a Partition on yotes. The exit wound will be fist sized. I would recommend using the Hornady VMAX bullet. They are designed to be frangible & you will rarely get an exit wound. Good luck with your coyote hunting!

George

What he says...and shoot at max velocities as well. I had good luck with Sierra Blitz as well...as long as they are shot through the thickest part of the body.

Kimber Varmint .204
Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40
Hornady 45gr. soft points (hoping to load up some Sierra BKs this year)
Primos Power Dog and mouth calls

Once the temperature drops to around freezing I'll be out.

Been using 55gr Hornady sxsp & sierra hpbt both since 89. Last year after reading about the 53gr V-max thought I would try it out so we worked up a load and can't imagine that it will disappoint.
Harris S-25 bipod, and some well thought out plans to keep my normally very eager son's feet, hands, head, ears, rear end and the rest of him warm and dry so we don't have to abandon the field early, retreat and go home...
OMG kids these days! V:I: lol

hey aren't hunting partners suppose to make fun of each other? He is a great partner! We're out there year round and I sure am enjoying being out there with him! :)

I had a hell of a time getting the 40gr to shoot out of my savage, eventually just going with factory 32gr.
They go in, jelly em on the inside and don't come out.
I switched up my powder to 4064 and am going to try it again. (was using h335)

other than harris bipods are there any others that do ~25" and swivel?

As for snowshoes, i have a set of MSR's that seem to work alright.

This winter, THIS will be my coyote rifle with 165 gr Nosler Accubond up to 600 metres... JP.

It is not the powder. It is the bullet. Most 1-12twist barrels will not shoot the polymer tip 40gr bullets worth a crap. You need a faster twist. If you want to shoot a 40gr bullet shoot a 40gr berger BTHP. They shoot great out of the 1-12 twist barrels!
