What do people think of the 7mm WSM?

WSM, WSSM, SAUM, all are absurd and ridiculous, only serving to dupe the customer and thin their wallet with marginal gains, high cost, limited availability and poor resale value. Buy something that has some staying power and that you’ll be able to get ammo for in the future.

The cost to buy a rifle in or reload any of those VS a 300WM, 7RM etc...........is all the same, actually a bit less on powder for the WSM. ;)

You must be a .303 or 30/30 shooter. :)

Now to quote the Rock, kinda.....................

Rock - "What kind of Magnum do you shoot???!!!!"

Shooter - " I shoot a........................."

Rock - "it doesn't matter what you shoot!!?? know your role and shut the hell up!"

Wrestling fans will get it.

In all honesty , cost is no less or no more when you break it down, accuracy, anybody half assed knowledgeable can get almost anything to shoot, if you are going custom precision, it'll shoot , if it's for hunting, the damn animal won't know the difference.

Personally , I have a BLR in 7WSM , it shoots well, it feeds and it is the one rifle I can grab and go with confidence to the bush or field, the bullet even comes out of the end fast. ;)

I am thinking the slower factory 7RM offerings are due to safety issues in regards to pressures and older rifles chambered in this offering.

The WSM line are much newer chamberings in newer firearms as well as being IMO a more efficient cartridge.

I could be totally wrong though.

How dare you.

ALL 7mm's are special in their own way.

Sure. I have 7-08, 7 rem, 7-300 Win, 3 STWs and a 28 Nosler. The trouble is; enthusiasts can't make a cartridge thrive by buying a bit of brass for a rifle he built. That takes a pile of factory ammo buying Joe Averages. Joe never felt the need to trade off his Rem mag, or park a WSM beside it.

The 7mm pie has been sliced too many ways, and only the Rem Mag gets more than a sliver.

223 remington or 308 winchester???

it was one i would of liked to own but never seen much popularity of too many variety in the rifles down under, i had a 300wsm an developed a flinch which is hard to shake... would put me off a WSM in the safe.. ]
the 7mm-08 i use is good but not quiet in the same league....

i do like hearing stories of people usin the 7wsm

I think a lot of people looked at the radical lines of the WSM and WSSM cartridges and were scared off by that. Figuring the likelihood of future availability was small, and the feeding issues questionable, they avoided the investment regardless of the obvious performance.
Now, even though feeding issues are pretty much non-existent, they look at the falling numbers and still stay away. To a hunter, there's a point where the added performance is of little real world benefit. Who cares how flat it shoots at 500 yards, if you're not shooting that far out?

Easy? Don't you have to create a false shoulder and blow the case out? I thought the 7mm WSM had the case shoulder moved forward to prevent it from being chambered in the 270 WSM.

One pass in the 7WSM die to create the shoulder and one shot in the chamber... done... that is pretty easy. I made 400+ pieces for my rifles... who doesn't like pulling the trigger.

The WSM was designed to be loaded with factory ammo at 65 kpsi, which is higher than your traditional 300 WM and 7 RM. Trying to duplicate factory speed with handloads is difficult and definitely shortens brass life with the WSM.

My experience as well

I love the 7mm WSM. I think its the best all around cartridge out of the three (.270 WSM, 7mm WSM, 300 WSM). I've owned one for years and dropped many moose with it. You have the best of both worlds...magnum cartridge in a short action. Ammo is not anymore expensive than buying regular magnum rounds. My Browning A-Bolt loves the Federal Premium Nosler Ballistic tip rounds. I was actually thinking of adding a 270 WSM to the collection. Guarantee you wouldn't be disappointed if you got yourself a rig in this caliber.
