what does a 6.5 creedmore do that a 6.5 x 55 doesn't?

243 Winchester, 100gr Nosler Partition @ 2850 fps (Federal Premium factory load)
100y - 2612 fps / 1515 ft lbs energy
300y - 2171 fps / 1047 ft lbs energy
500y - 1776 fps / 701 ft lbs energy

6.5 Creedmoor, 140gr Nosler Accubond @ 2725 fps (Federal Premium factory load)
100y - 2549 fps / 2020 ft lbs energy
300y - 2217 fps / 1528 ft lbs energy
500y - 1910 fps / 1134 ft lbs energy

6.5x55, 140gr Fusion @ 2530 fps (Federal Factory Load)
100y - 2336 fps / 1696 ft lbs energy
300y - 1973 fps / 1210 ft lbs energy
500y - 1648 fps / 844 ft lbs energy

Common loads for the 3 cartridges. Looks the Creedmoor really outclasses the 243 and Swede

Still cherry picking data I see
Factory 6.5x55

Factory 243
https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/rifle/243-win-95-gr-sst-superformance#!/
Looks like the 6.5CM parent company can't even load it to best 243 or 6.5x55 energy.

I've been looking for some reduced loads for the 308, who's data are you using?

Loads worked up from the H4895 reduced formula... 60% of MAX to start... 35.0 grains with a 125 SST is 71% of MAX. In my experience, you will find a good load between 70% - 75%.

Big time in this case...

just 3 common loads from the most popular ammo manuf.

Superformance ammo is also available in 6.5 Creedmoor, 129gr SST @ 2950, kinda trumps the Swede 140SST @ 2735

300y energy
6.5x55 140SST SPF ammo - 1579 ft lbs
6.5 Creed 129SST SPF - 1641 ft lbs
243 Win 95SST SPF - 1217 ft lbs

The Creedmoor still prevails

And I thought the 308 v 3006 argument was waste of time.

All this 6.5 Creedmoor talk kinda makes me want to buy one. I have nothing that currently fits .243-.270 category except a 6.8SPC which is a different beast altogether. I had been thinking a .270 bolt gun, but with a .308 and .366 Wagner maybe a 6.5 CM would be ideal.

I already have vanilla, and schnitzel covered, maybe a hipster corndog is the ticket.

And Lapua loads the 6.5x55 with 123gr pills to 3018fps/2497ftlbs. You can't get around that more powder = more velocity/energy, and one clearly holds more powder.

Now that’s good comedy. :)

Except that both manufacturers and loading manuals load the Swede DOWN and load the Creedmoor UP, which you well know, which does not provide any apple to apple comparison of what cartridges are capable of.

Bears-Brown/Grizz it's not suitable at all.
Elk, Caribou it would not be my first choice.
If I was going out for Black Bears around here I would not take the 6.5CM as we still get some big ones.
Anything I would hunt with a 243 I would consider the 6.5CM the same level basically.

Ran into these boys Tuesday. Give me a rifle that functions properly, a good bullet, and I could count chambering needs a distant second.

Considering the majority of hunters use factory ammo, it’s easy to see why the CM would be chosen over the Swede

If you want to pay silly prices for cheap US bullets and brass sure.
If you want higher quality, European factory ammo like Norma/Lapua/RWS only comes in 6.5x55.

Well yah, if'n all you shoot is factory. That data falls apart when handloads are considered.

Does the American ammo not shoot accurately or use quality bullets that perform well on deer?

From all accounts all the CM factory ammo seems to be quite accurate.
