What Happened to Ruger's M77 line?

There used to be a few gunsmith’s who would convert mk1 rugger pushfeeds to controlled feed. Some used a Mauser 98 ejector and slotted left lug, some used a M70 type ejector. Butch Searcy had some at a gun show in Reno I was at, maybe 25 years ago.

All sorts of things are messed up these days and Ruger is also busy working on the new Marlin's at the moment.

MARLIN - REMLIN - AND NOW RUGLIN.

I can hardly wait to see how this disaster works out... And I bet they'll be full of cast parts too.

I would have to agree with Conor_90 that BRNO/CZ quality and design seems to be going down, although they are still good rifles.
My opinion comes from owning several BRNO and CZ rifles in the past. (Brno milsurp 98, #1, 2e, 3, 4, 5, 452, 455, 21, zg47, zkk600, 601).
As far as the Ruger 77 goes, my experiences haven't been as positive as others on this thread. My tang safety 270 was pretty, but not accurate at all, my first mk2 300 win mag was okay, but the paddle stock was terrible. (just my opinion, seems everyone else loves those stocks...), my second mk2 7-08 accuracy was just okay too.
I am a big fan of the Hawkeye series though, as I have had good luck with several of those. Good accuracy and built like tanks.
I find them to be too heavy unless in a magnum cartidge, and maybe not as finely finished as the mk2 or earlier ones.

I picked up a couple of used Rugers on the exchange for good prices, I got an almost new Gunsite Scout in 450BM just before the prices on them shot up, and a compact stainless laminate in 7-08 [the model I wanted], very good price but the floor plate would pop open on every shot [no disclosure], very quick fix. I don't see myself selling either one.

I have three M77's that I've acquired over the years since 1989, a .243Win Ultralight, a .30-06Sprg International RSI and a .270Win stainless/synthetic (not the paddle stock). I've never seen, shot or handled such well built deadly accurate rifles. They're now a permanent fixture that will last my boys long after I'm gone.

i think as the same as for the mkii and cz550 nobody was willing to pay more for those great rifles. they will come back as the model 70 from winchester. called classic for a way more money ...

The old guy I hunt with will swear to you that his hundred dollar Bushnell is "clearer than any Lee-uh-pold". Some of these guys are just hunters. They don't know guns or cartridges or glass. Same guy told me that the 270 is no good for deer because it's too fast. I'm really fond of the old pelter, but he doesn't know a damned thing about guns except how to point it at a deer.

^^^^ true that!! I know a few guys that don’t give a #### about what others use, and they barely care about what they use lol, asked them any questions about there rigs and they tell you the brand and the caliber and that is all!! Same for ammo, and sometimes worst, they only know the caliber Hahaha

I'm still holding out for a .308, hopefully they rotate their production line back to that caliber.

Not interested in .350, .450, 6.5 PRC etc.

but those guys are bringing food on the table lol ...

my late dad used 416 rigby for africa otherwise in europe mostly 7x64 and 7x65r with a little of the 243 win for roe deer only ... i think he had in the estate a 300 win mag never shot a gift certainly still in the grease ... i asked many times about red deer and 7x64 and 7x65r and the fact that some calibers were better: how come it s perfectly working with a 160 nosler partition why do i need something else?

and like our Ted only wood and blued ... only exception to that tradition an italian semi-auto for ducks ...

well they ended the left handed actions now the regular ... keep what you have once they re gone they re gone ...

The used market is your friend. I found a heavy barreled M77 tang safety in .243 for my farmer. The coyotes hate it.

I'm keeping my .308 lefty. Thanks BTW. Found Ruger rings for it. Just as rare apparently. Had a brake installed by a smith for quick follow-up shots and installed an oblong bolt knob for faster cycling. It's my hog gun now. Beautifully polished deep blue which seems to be un common on the MkII.

I keep forgetting about Rugers affinity for fast twists in their .243's, I believe most of the hunting guns are or were 9-twist. Never overlook a Ruger in .243! :)

Epps and PR both have those in stock as well but not at that price, and a number of other retailers here have them in other cartridges. With the shortages and prices of everything else rising lately $1500 doesn't seem out to lunch.

Has anyone priced out a new truck lately? Out the door purchase price of an equal gm I bought 7 years ago is up 40%

M77, a classic rifle, based on a great action. I was tupperware stock and tacticool guy until I discovered the M77 and .358 Winchester Round. There is nothing like taking to the field with a couple classics. Shoots great, looks awesome. Its ok to admit your dad's gun is cooler than yours and always will be.

These days I now use premium ammunition for moose hunting. The guys I hunt with use any old plain soft point they can find at Canadian Tire. Inevitably they shoot the moose (and kill it) before I do. Kinda shoots holes in my argument that one needs to spend twice as much on bullets to kill moose.
