What hunting gear have you bought that was a total waste of funds?

LOL that backpack looks like the episode of the simpsons where homer puts on the shorts
your first pic the backpack is happy
the last pic ( being stuffed full ) it looks sad lol

My bag is made by Tatonka. I think the model is Creek 60, but they probably don't make this particular one anymore...(there is a sleeping bag in the bottom, so it looks kinda funny in the pic)

Here's what it looks like with stuff in it. It's pretty full now, but it's got an expandable top that takes it from 60L to more like 80L.

Wind river quad comfort hiking boots. The sole cracked second day out and are not the least bit water resistant.
Bought Irish setter elk trackers the next season, way better.

Frog Tog waders, and Rapala wading boots. Neither survived two Grizzly hunts, they're practically disposable.

Not to completely disagree with you angus, but I have a pair of the rapalas that I have owned for about 5 years and they are still going strong..... that being said, i would never bring them out your way for bear duty.... they are meant for cruising trout streams etc.....

Thermacell heated insoles. Got them as a gift. tried them once, they didn't get past slightly cool to the touch. Next time out, one quit working. In the garbage.
Frog Togg rain pants and jacket. By the end of day one moose hunting in rain, it looked like Freddie Kruger had done a number on me.
And finally Muck boots. As comfy as they are, the neoprene is too fragile. I've shredded several pairs. A couple are almost completely coated in Aquaseal.

I'll add to my previous list of garbage here. Ameristep dog house ground blind was brutal. Owned a couple baby mojo's too and they had a 1 season lifespan. I had a bunch of final approach honkers decoys that would struggle to survive as lawn ornaments as well lol.

Don't bring them here when we chase bears! :d They'll go about 20 days, mine have 25 days on them and the soles are detached and rubbed smooth. On the west coast when we think wading boots we think hiking boots designed to run wet. They were the only boots in my size and figured how bad could they be... :p

Down filled sleeping bag good for eskimo country and I darn ne-er froze to death.
Got so hot that them feathers gartzs wet and got me chilled to the bone.
Not a good hunting trip with that bag...................sleeping bag, I mean.

Wouldn't even think of it..... they were cheap and do a great job of helping me chase trout in the adirondacks, but are as comfortable over long distances as a lifted jeep.....

Any suggestions?.... set for rain gear etc, but a good pair of boots and some rip free waders would be the bees knees..... and not just for our hunt.....

Simms all the way! I should have bought them in the first place, cheaper in the long haul, the old "too poor for cheap tools" applies for this application.

For the boots as well?.... I have heard good things...

And yes, as I said about rangefinders up there, buy once cry once always rings true.... only exception to that rule I have ever found was mora knives, but that's almost a story for another thread.....

Lol..... I must admit I did the buy once cry once thing on my 9mm..... I don't plan to own many handguns, and 9mm is pretty much the best gun for the "dabbler".... so I bought an HK.... but I have no issue carrying a well figured double barrel shotgun or a Ruger #1, with a plastic sheathed mora on the belt......

I won't even explain why the HK is posed as such.... will just say it's a "cheeky" homage to typical CGN picture protocol....

Only thing missing from that photo is a plate of back bacon.
