Looking to hear some opinions on people's favorite coyote round that doesn't destroy pelts. I currently use a 22-250 and depending on range it can make a bigger exit than I would like. Any suggestions on what i may change up to? Also im running hornady 55 grain for reference.

Your question has been around a long time I think? In 1970's a local guy asked me to load some Sierra 50 grain Blitz for his 22-250 - idea was they would only have entrance hole - explode inside - not exit. Except he shot a fox on longish angle - probably hit the hip / pelvis first - tore the thing in half. Blamed me for lousy hand loading. No idea what he did with the rest of the rounds. I never reloaded for others since.

I like my 223’s for coyotes, although depending on bullet, you can have the same issue. I’ve literally blown the front shoulder off a coyote running away from me with some of my handloads. As has been mentioned, look at changing your bullets. Get something more frangible and you won’t get an exit.

I will add, as has been mentioned, my favourite for coyotes is whatever I’ve got handy at the time. 223, 308, 7mm RM, 44 mag, or even 12 gauge if they’re close enough.

223 Hornady sxsp 50g
243 Barnes tsx85g
I have also used 243 with Hornady 100g interlocks with good results on small sample at 100y plus

338 Lapua because it pretty much disintegrates them. Usually just a head and tail left over. Sometimes a couple paws

Switch to a .222 if you’re looking for accuracy and good hide condition!

I have one.. Makes much smaller hikes than my .223 and my .300wsm lol, the .300wsm only puts them down during big game season.
