What is everyone's go to coyote round?

#4 buck works great but for saving the pelts I've had really good luck with sierra HP game king 55gr from a short barreled 223. Mind you all 3 so far with it have been shot in the throat facing head on. No real exits. Lots of shrapnel under the hide on the back of the neck

Been trying to get a 308 with 110sst lined up but things keep getting in the way. Guess I don’t have my priorities straight.

My default cartridge is the 22/250. If saving hides is an issue you have to be careful with bullet selection, and range comes into play, because velocity matters a lot too. My stand by bullet is the Berger 52 grain varmint match. A choice that has already been mentioned is Winchester white box 46 grain. Perfect hides are the norm then, but its sort of a 300 yard choice. If dead coyotes ade the goal, a 22 Middlested is great with my choice of 80 grain Bergers. 1000 yards is in the game then. One of the most sucessful coyotes hunters I know used 62 grain Seirra soft points in his. One set up for summer loads and one for winter. Its hard to argue with a guy who killed 5-700 coyotes a year for decades shooting right handed rifles lefthanded. Thats the only identity hint I’ll offer.

There is no money in hides why worry about fur damage? It’s more about where you hit em and how far than what they got hit with.
I have one hole entrances with a 65gr V-max at appx 100yrds no exit if hit through the middle. If the hit is on bone ….she a not so good eh.

.22 Hornet 35gr Vmax has been very fur friendly when calling.

.204 Ruger pushing either 35gr Berger or 39gr SBK. 40 gr Vmax is no slouch either. All are fur friendly. The 35s fall off pretty quickly at distance compared to the longer, heavier bullets.

.223 Rem 40gr Berger or 40gr SBK. Both combos have been very easy on pelts. Neither are long bomb offerings.

6mm Rem AI 75gr Vmax. Inside 100 yards, shoot them head on and all is well. Broadside, it’ll be - dramatic. Outside of 100, angles are less problematic. This has been a spectacular killer out to 500 so far.

I use 50g soft point (Sako gamehead) and I find it's easier in pelts than the 50-55g vmax.

The vmax works great, but I like the 50g soft point better. .22 250 is king for coyotes IMO.

Vmax usually won't exit if you hit in the boiler room of a coyote, I shot one in the neck at about 20 yards, exit was bigger than my fist.
