What is everyone's go to coyote round?

Anything on hand including 7.5s out of a shotgun ;)

Win white box .223 45 grain always worked well

Me too. Seldom actually targeted coyotes. They were targets of opportunity when out hunting. Even then, mostly they got a pass as I didn't want to ruin my hunt.

Not ideal but 300wm and 338wm definitely work. Never had a chance when carrying my 375 rum, pretty sure 260 nosler @3050/sec and just shy of 6k energy would.do the trick.

I haven't hunted for coyotes in forever, but I really liked my .22-250 for that task. I don't own one anymore so I'd either take my .223 and deal with the heft or my .243 and deal with the mess.

2506 with 75gr vmax bullets is generally Pelt friendly passed 300 yards. Inside that expect to be able to put a 5x7 photo of you and your coyote in the hole in the hide. Unless #### straight on in the chest. Good news is it's always a clean hit or miss. Never any confusion whether or not you hit it with a 2506

i was out with a group of coyote hunters last week and took note of their guns. 223 dominated , next was 22.250, 243 and one 22 high power, one twelve guage with number four buck. we had the best day ever and had eight down by ten thirty in the morning and ten by noon. our afternoon saw us get only one.

6k? Closer to 3000 isn’t it?

I’ve used 223, 22-250, 243, 25-06, 257 wby, 6.5cm and 300RUM.

Nowadays I mostly use the 223 as I’ve found the majority of my shots are under 200 yards and it’s cheap to shoot the good old 223.

Dogleg;19462841 One of the most sucessful coyotes hunters I know used 62 grain Seirra soft points in his. One set up for summer loads and one for winter. Its hard to argue with a guy who killed 5-700 coyotes a year for decades shooting right handed rifles lefthanded. Thats the only identity hint I’ll offer.[/QUOTE said:
I don’t recall Darcy using 62’s. Shot 55gr Sierra Game Kings for a lotta years though.

I've had good results on a couple dozen coyotes with a .222 Rem and 40 gr. Ballistic tips or 40 gr. Vmax. Both Hornady and Federal load them in factory form, but I handload mine. Kills quick, seldom exit. Enough range for me - 300 yards or so is certain and quick death if I aim correctly.

Not 3k, but I was wrong. Sorry, going on memory, just looked it up on Wikipedia. The 260 partition, slower than my load is just short of 5200 energy, so mine a bit over. Don't think anything, coyote or Satan's cattle will complain for.the missing 800 energy

Never mind, I totally misread your post. I thought you were talking about the 26 Nosler cartridge. Now I see you’re talking about a 260 gr. Nosler bullet. My bad.

If I will be hunting brush country, I bring a .223 or on some occasions a .22 Hornet... if shots may be over 300 yards, I use a .220 Swift or .22-250... usually the "250." If I am hunting in the heavy timber, I use a 12 gauge semi with 3" #4 copper plated lead loads.

I’m very lightly gunned in this crowd, this said our shots are short here due to the nature of the bush. .22 Magnum is my fave, and the .22 Hornet was great out of my 527. Also liked the .218 Bee though I used it sparingly, as the .22 Mag is just plain easier.

The .243 is the heaviest I’ve used purposely for the task, it worked while I lived in the Rockies and had longer sight lines. It wasn’t kind to the other side of the coyote. Used the .375 H&H too, but it seemed a bit much, though effective.
