What is more fun to shoot 1911 vs glock or M&P 9?

Come on Guys!! This is his First Pistol. Even though he is asking which is the most fun to shoot, you are recommending a gun that will jam just as much as it will shoot.

A 1911 is NOT a good choice for a first gun. He has to learn how to shoot not waste time clearing Jams, FTF's, Misfeeds and Tuning it to shoot properly.

Ether a M&P or Glock. M&P is a little cheaper new, but good deals on Glocks can be had here on lightly used Glocks on our EE.

Cheers

I rented rem 1911, (45 acp), glock 17 (9mm) and m&p (40sw) and i enjoyed the 1911 most.

I ended up buying CZ97b (45 acp) as first pistol :)

i own a mp 40,a baby glock and a few 1911`s.
i purchased my 1911 way before the glock and the mp..i loooove shooting the 1911`s especially my springfield operator.. i purchased the mp and glock over 2 years ago,,they are still unfired and in their boxes,,,tell ya anything :)

Thanks a ton. I'm gonna have to go and look them all at once to see which one feels right.

1911s can be a lot of fun but a) to get one that is Glock-grade reliable will cost somewhere between 3 and 6 times as much as a Glock, and b) they're typically expensive to feed as the vast majority of them are .45acp, which is a bit pricey. You could certainly get a 9mm 1911, they are fun...but less reliable than an equivalent gun in .45 on average.

On the other hand, most gun owners don't shoot enough to notice the difference in reliability between a cheap 1911 and a Glock. If you're only going to put 500 rounds a year through the gun, you can pretty much enjoy anything.

If you want to get good at shooting a pistol, I'd recommend a modern polymer gun, preferably in 9mm, because you'll be able to focus on the shooting and 9mm is relatively cheap.

And by modern polymer I mean Glock, HK, or M&P.

Fun factor? 1911 all the way!! Even Norc's have decent trigger pull for sub$400 guns. I didn't know how fun 1911's were till I got one. If you don't have anything yet though you should get a modern polymer gun like the ones listed above. All dead nuts reliable and easy to clean and maintain. Better for a first gun IMO. Buy the workhorse first and the toy's later.

1911 (I have the Kimber Custom II Target-Love it)
CZ Shadow (Take a look at this pistol, I like it over the Glock)
M&P (I have the 40, not my favorite to shoot, but the #1 pistol for defense, ooops forgot...can't defend yourself in Canada)

Now go buy a gun and go have some fun!

Not a bad idea to get a .22LR as well. Maybe even the first hand gun. It is crazy cheap to shoot and will help you with the basics. My GSG goes to the range every time I go, can't say that for any of the others.

JimmieA.

The most fun is to be had with the pistol that you shoot best.

Try them all, to see which FITS you, and your shooting ability / style the best.

What works for each of us is irrelevant to what works for you.
