As the title says: Whats your favorite S&W revolver and why? The reason I posted this was because I just purchased a 686 & no sooner than I get home from my tasking, I come across both a model 28 & a 66 for sale. I've owned both in the past & really enjoyed them. I looked for a 66 in a 6" barrel for months, as this was the first revolver/ handgun I ever owned. I'm sure I'll be tickled with the 686, but isn't that always the way things go...:slap: And sure there are plenty of other revolvers out there, but none of them are S&W's...:p

That's a hard one to answer, Danceswithmts.
For me it's first a Model 624. As I am not 12 anything, this is the 6.5 inch variant. Weight and balance about perfect in my hands.
Before I had this revolver, my answer would have been the 1940 manufactured, 5 inch barreled Pre-Model 20 Heavy Duty in .38 special.

I just bought a S&W 29-2. I just couldn't pass it up.

I haven't shot it yet but I know it's going to be a lot of fun when I get it to the range. It is the typical movie gun, and everyone who sees it says "Go ahead. Make my day". I used to have a plastic model of it when I was a kid, and it was just one of those guns I always wanted to have.

The 629PC is my fav, the 686 is the GF's favorite, 6" 500 next on the aquzition list.

I'm the same Brutus, 12 F/A status. I've owned K, N & now a L frame & can't say I didn't like any of them. I don't remember the model 66 being a handful with 357 mag's but I do know the N framed 28 was a pussycat with hot loads.
The model 17, I think, a dash 4 22 I use to have was a fun plinker as well.

What is your favorite Smith & Wesson revolver?

can't decide,...
I have a mint condition Mod. 29 6 inch barrel with flawless glossy blueing, just beautiful...
Than I own a Mod 28 4 inch High Way Patrolman which is not as nicely finished as the 29, but boy it shoots.... 1 inch 5 shot groups at 25 meters...

Smiths - gotta buy them ALL!!

I only would not won the 7 and 8 shot 686 simply because they are odd ducks and would not be likely to find spares or accessories like speedloaders for them as easily.

I own a modified Mdl 10, a Mdl 586 and a Mdl 17. And I plan on buying a LOT more of them!

586/686 are my favorites - cheap to shoot when you use .38's, lots of power when you go to .357. The trigger on my 586 was the finest double action trigger I have ever used. The look of these 2 guns are timeless.
My 29-2 was another favorite as well.

Here is a nice pair of Smiths. Each one is pre model number, a K22 and a 357 magnum. Missing in the picture is my 29-2, with 6.5" barrel.
