What is your go anywhere do anything rifle?

Projectiles of good design is the key words here and good design for coyotes and good design for moose or the like is different, my last moose got shot at nearly 300 yards with factory hornady 178gn eldx and yes the moose died and quite quickly to be honest but lots of meat lost and that for me is a good reason enough to not use that bullet again! On bison moose and big bears it will be only good solidly built bullets like accubond, partitions, impacts etc.
For caribou I don’t care cause there bones are pretty thin and light skin animals same with sheep and goats.
As for big dangerous grizzly bears, i never felt under gunned while carrying one of my 30-06’s even loaded with 165gn bullets.
Fragmenting bullets or C&C bullets are fine if you don’t plan on hitting bones, but planning and reality are two different things and in my book you better plan on hitting bones and plan on hitting the animal in less than ideal broad side or slightly quartering away, cause that is not always the shot that is presented to you!
Most people don’t even know the different anatomy of different animals like you don’t hit a bison at the same place as you would a moose or caribou and same goes for bears… but again very little people actually know or take the time to study that stuff!

You're gonna lose some meat but ELDM actually holds together better than ELDX. And seeing as how some members here are shooting through moose bone with the 88gr just fine I sure ain't worried about 160s

Same with TMK. At this point just so much evidence/experience out there with both.

I'm a mono guy but not worried about that either lol

I hear you on needing to bear the angle you'll actually be shooting from in mind tho!

Less lead particles I have in my meat the better I feel. And the fastest a moose went down so far it was with a 286 grain partition out of a Ruger no1 9.3x62 over 100m moose was heavily quartering towards me( basically a frontal shot) I don’t think I would have Taken the shot with a 6mm or smaller chambering shooting frangible eld-m or x or federal blue box ammo.
But to each there own!

So far here, very limited sample set with the 9.3, but they act the same when hit with just about anything. Hunch, shuffle a lil, die withing 100 yards lol. But I admire the holes it makes and the relative lower meat damage. Worth it alone imo

John Barsness told me the fastest hes ever seen one drop was a 270 win with 130gr haha. Think its all a crapshoot my man.

Anything and Everything? Lots to choose from, but I guess a Ruger M77 Mark II Stainless .375 WSM.
Most things? Same rifle in 7.62X57 HC.

To this point. A lot of “Heavier” more “Well Constructed” bullets actually perform less ideally on marginal shots. They definitely penetrate better and will often leave two holes. But by not fragmenting and the bullet upsetting less they destroy less tissue and leave smaller permanent wound channels.

This leads to the myths of certain animals being “tough” and able to “soak up” shots and carry on.

Tissue damage, and by extension, organ dame kills. Energy has little to do with things.
Interesting perspective. Phil Shoemaker's was two holes are always better than one, so being he killed a few in his career, I'll take his word on it. I haven't noticed any of the larger animals I've shot with TTSX and had complete pass throughs on, (95%) dieing any slower than they did with Partitions.

The one I took with the 9.3 didn’t even wobble, it went down like you dropped a bag of potatoes. But in reality most of them wobble a bit take a step of two and down they go within 10m from where they were shot, but that has more to do with where they got hit!

You didn't know that bullets that lose mass kill faster than bullets that don't? Happy to help ya discover that one today :) Not being facetious, btw. If you went this far while somehow miraculously not knowing that bullets shedding their weight in the form of fragmentation kill big game faster too, then its high time to correct that!

The crazy thing is, you can take bullets that are bonded and don't that much mass but open very wide, like a Fusion (Gold Dot) and the fragmenting bullet (TMK, ELDM, etc) can still penetrate farther while doing more damage.

Why wouldn't a lighter cartridge than 30-06 kill bears?

Your math up there completely ignores bullet construction, whether they reach the vitals or CNS, how much damage they so there, etc. Therefore it means nothing.

Lol ft/lbs

Like you said, you do you. Carrying a bigger gun is great if you shoot it as well. Do so, the more the merrier and no replacement for displacement. But, as long as you don't think the others can't or fall short. Dead IS quite dead. I am all ears on how a 160gr projectile of good design is not gonna kill something when the 250gr bullet hit in the same place will. But hey, maybe where you live magically changes the laws of physics etc hahaha
I'm almost exclusively mono metals for quite a few years. Haven't noticed my TTSX killing any slower. The few I "have" recovered after smashing through shoulders, spines, etc retained close to their original weight and amazingly enough the animals still fell over.

You hunt where again? Seem to have a lot of big bear, bison, etc knowledge. And was it not you promoting 12g slugs over larger rifle cartridges for bear defence a while back? :)

Ok maybe that build needs a thread of its own. Stock? Barrel we know! Gunsmith that did th

e work? How does it shoot? Weight? Total cost(approximately😎)…..
I think I really like it. I could see my self getting something like that done maybe in 338 federal…
Don’t need to further hijack this one so I started a thread detailing the build here.

Im leaning towards a sauer 9.3x62 as a general do everything but Im not able to hunt grizzly or polar bear. I ain't climbing any mountains with my knees the way they are so that leaves moose deer black bear and wolf as my big game chases. Of which my Lil 44 mag would do just fine as im really starting to like it
My 458wm would be just behind the 9.3x62.

Solid cartridge. Have a few friends that shoot them.

Yessir!

The 286gr rn (PPU) was nice but it didnt feed well in my Zastava. Im sure all the other good bullets out there are likewise wonderful.

A lot of people who use both would disagree, especially as their velocities drop! Only becomes more apparent.

As for the rest, it doesn't bother you to make arguments that don't have any logical merit? lol. It would bother me. I mean, so much so I'd really just rather be honest and say "Yeah, I can't point to ANY evidence that the 160gr bullet wouldn't stop the bear, where bigger would".

Instead this weird cop-out, but hey haha.

Oh and if you have issue with something you're alluding to me maybe or maybe not even saying elsewhere, quote it and lets talk about rather than speculating whether or not that was even me lol

;)
