What is your honest opinion on Vortex optics?

I have some Lee stuff. It's not my fave. I find my press just not "tight". One day I'll have a 500$ press, but the Lee makes fine fine ammo!!!

I have every level of scope from a Nikon .22 BDC right up to an ATACR and a S&B PMII, with a few vortex's in the mix. I like em. If I couldn't afford the NF or S&B, a PST would be a fine choice for 1/2 the price.

I had two Vortex. A crossfire II and a Viper. They were both excellent scopes for what I paid. I see good and bad reviews about them in terms of durability, but I haven't experienced any issues with either scope.

My Favorites so far are the Nikon Monarch 3 series. Very good glass and the turret system is just so crisp and sharp.

I've had 4 vortex scopes and never had an issue with them. They are a good price point on the cross fire ii. My 6-24 x 50 BDC reticle cross was bought this spring before the dollar tanked @$319. It was on my savage tr 22lr most of the season and has been on my vanguard 223 this fall, tracks well decent fine reticle. With that said I just purchased a new bushnell elite 4-16x40 AO DOA from p&d on a black Friday sale for $399. I also have a viper HS 4-16 x 50 BDC reticle. I was out looking through both and hands down the elite has the better glass.

I do a lot of research before I buy something like this. I enjoy that part of the process - when it actually leads to a clear decision. What makes it difficult is determining what people share the same values as me. Here's a question that would clear things up for me - for those who like Vortex, do you also like Lee reloading products? Because I f###ing hate Lee even though many are perfectly happy and make fine ammunition with their stuff.

Best to start a new thread with your question about Lee - otherwise its called Hijacking. However I do like their collet dies and their powder thrower.

Love my viper pst 4-16ffp. Dropped my talon hd binoculars on concrete floor and knocked a lens out of focus. 4 weeks to the day after shipping i had them returned and repaired. Cant ask for much more than that.

How is my post asking about Vortex a hijack? I'm suggesting that basing a decision on the opinion of someone else without knowing anything about that person's tendencies is leaning heavily towards the side of futility.

I have had a Vortex viper and a viper PST. I really liked both of them. The warranty... well, everyones knows about vortex's warranty... We all hope we never have to use it anyhow. I have gone through rifles quite a bit and unfortunately sold two rifles with both vortex scopes on them. My latest build has a Bushnell Elite tactical on it but not by choice. I ended up settling on it just because i couldn't find the vortex PST 6-24x50 with the FFP and reticle I wanted. I would now recommend the Bushnell but I won't down that route. As far as the Viper and PST model is concerned vortex has my vote.

Vortex has excellent warranty on crap. There I said it.

Crap that in my experience has clear glass.... holds zero.... tracks perfectly.... has accurate reticle markings.... is repeatable..... and has an excellent warranty...

And yes.... I own six vortex products.

By no means am I saying it is the best..... but it certainly is a decent optic for a reasonable price.

Had a look through a Viper to see what all the hype was about. I own 4200 Bushnells and a Leupold varix-11, and to me the clarity brightness etc of the Viper didn't do it for me.

I had my first negative experience with a Vortex.... I have purchased 18 by my count, all diamondback and above except a crossfire for a .22 and this one, a crossfire 2-7 x 32 that I tossed on a rem 700 in .30-06 while waiting for what I wanted (not in stock locally).....

The bad

- I fired one shot with the rifle and it went blurry then, when I took it off of the rifle it had a rattle in it...
- When I got a call from the warranty service, they claimed I over-tourqued the ring screws, I have a torque screwdriver and I just calibrated it and it is bang on... and I have done several with it in between....

The good

- Scope is being replaced with zero fight from them.... even though they say it's my fault it broke
- I sent it out last week, they received it yesterday, I got the call today and the new one is in the mail and will be at my place by tuesday.... less than two week turnaround, very good imop, try getting that from anyone else.

I have had really good experience with these scopes to date, I am happy with their service and the mid to higher end scopes I rate highly from a "usage" perspective, ie, good glass, nice crisp adjustments, great reticles etc....

I also shoot leupolds and they are great scopes, no doubt..... but more expensive for the same thing in my opinion.... both brands stand by their product.....

I believe they are great for the price point, Have the 2.5-10x44 Viper HS on a xbolt 300wm
Have been playing around and the seem to track well, Have heard the pst glass and clarity is a bit iffy but cant say
Would I buy another for a hunting rig, Yes

Pretty much a stable 'High end' scope around here. People tend to turn there nose up at an 'Equal Value' scope vs gun scenario.

Don't own one myself but I see plenty of meat hanging because of a Vortex.

I have a 6.5-20x30 on a .338 Lapua and I'm well into 400 through it, no issues from the scope. It just dropped 2 big bull elk recently, flattened them with shots the farmer said were right where he put the crosshairs. It's been banged around on a quad hunting and been humped all over. I'd buy another no problem.

Owned a Viper 3-9x40 that was optically comparable to a Leupold VX3, maybe even a hair better. Also owned a Viper HS 4-16x50 LR that was comparable to a bad Tasco. I'm not sure why the difference, but it was noticeable. I sold them both as I read too many warranty threads on here. I prefer buying scopes where I don't need the warranty.

I have had a 4-16 PST and a 6-24 PST, sold both warranty replacements as new in box. Great features, pretty damn good glass, junk internals. Avoid them, I am curious about the razor, but not curious enough to pass a known good Nightforce or a Schmidt or Us optics..... I absolutely am sure the reason the warranty is so good is they can afford to replace the same optic two to three times and still make money over the price it costs to build and ship them... There are two types of lifetime unconditional warranty, the type where it's so cheap who cares and the type where they are not worried about ever having to replace them. Ymmv

In total I have owned 5 Vortex scopes. I've owned 2 - Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP MOA (at different time) and both are now gone. I currently own a Viper 6.5-20x50 on a 300WM, Diamondback 3.5-10x50 on a .243 and a CF II 6-18x50AO on a .22. The only problem I've had was with my first PST. It worked great but had some dust inside the lens' so I sent it back and got fixed with no problems. I have no problem buying more from them.
