What would you say is your typical hunting distance? What would be your average and like most? Short-medium range? Medium-long range?
How many yards? For which Big games? (Deer, Elk, Moose, etc)

And what caliber?

I'm not a very good shot so I try to keep them less than 150 yards. Have gone out to 300-400 but I prefer not to.

Greatly depends what you’re hunting and where. The greatest number of hunts I’ve been on by volume, are coastal bears and mountain goats. Both those, especially the latter push average shot distances way up. Northern Moose and black bear are usually arrow to .30-30 range. Haven’t hunted a deer in several olympics so I can’t comment on them.

I have now hunted for about 64 years.

I have shot game animals from 15 yards on out to 600 yards.
That being said, only a few animals taken beyond 350 yards.

300 plus head of game taken in BC and Alberta.

Averaged out, I'm guessing about 125-140 yards.
This includes Elk, Moose, goat, sheep, bears and 3 varieties
of deer. EE.

All of my moose have been inside 100 yards. Furthest shot was about 350 yards on my ram. Couple handfuls of goats between myself and friends, 250 yards was about the furthest, with a couple inside 50 yards. All my deer but 1 have been inside 200 yards. The couple bears have been with iron sights, so pretty close. Iv passed on probably as much as Iv taken due to not being confident in the shot situation, I love stalking, I’ll soak in every minute I can before pulling the trigger.

My average is 130ish meters, most are 100m, moose is my main query! My longest shot was 180 m on a moose form my canoe!
My shorter would have been less than 60m!

Moose/elk probably around 50 yards with some exceptions, a result of hunting these where rifle hunting is allowed in the rut

Black bears/deer probably around 150

I've never shot an animal at anything over 250 yards but those "longer" shots were mostly on bears and deer on deactivated service roads or in cutblocks.

When I first started out average distance would have been in the <100 yard range.

As of the past 10 years or so I would say my average is around 250-280 yards… off the top of my head caribou 350ish, multiple whitetail in the 350-400 range, best moose to date at 100, last whitetail was in the 200-250 range, bison at 30-50, lots in f adventures. Looking forward to more this fall!
