What kind of milsurp prices are people ACTUALLY getting?

I know this might be a touchy subject but what are people actually paying for milsurps these days? We see the list prices of course, and sometimes they go quickly which suggests a good price, but we are also seeing No.4s sitting for months at $1000, K31's priced at 1200 when they are available for $650 at retailers, etc etc.

What prices have you actually bought or sold a milsurp at recently? I would wager they are higher than a few years ago but not astronomical!

I just bought a 1941 Swiss K31 in a 1953 beech stock from Calgary Shooting centre for $495 plus tax and shipping ($630 all in) due to a mismatched magazine - I thought that was a great deal!

Anybody else care to share?

Had a very clean (almost as new) all matching Savage No 4 Mk1 with sling at a couple of gun shows in BC recently. Much admired but no takers or even offers at $750.

Prices on the EE seem to be higher than at gun shows. Maybe time to start selling there.

K98 Czech Rebuilt postwar but in great shape: $1000
Matching Chinese SKS at Calgary Shooting Center: $209
Superb No.4 Mk.1 all original: $750
Mosin M38 with correct stock:

I don’t think I overpaid for any of them. I personally think No.4 and No.5 are the most outrageously priced on the EE some that are beaten up or are clearly rebuilt sporters get listed at around $1000 but they rarely sell. Good deals are out there but you have to be patient.

I would say most rifles on the EE are well priced, the ones that aren’t get BTT endlessly

The whole issue is complicated by actual collectors willing to pay significant premiums for specific variants or years or conditions. There's too much variability among available No. 4 or No. 1 Lee Enfields to talk about typical prices. Mosins, Mausers, etc have to be divided up into original vs. refurb categories which have moderate to enormous value differences. SVT 40 prices baffle me- they seem to routinely draw $700-$800 at auction, seem to sell from dealers at $850, but on EE or at local shows you may struggle to find someone who will pay $650 for a good one. The highest price I've ever manged to sell a refurb non-sniper for was $800 for a '44 with perfect bore and stock. And then there is the occasional sudden appearance of a bunch of rifles of a particular type in our little market- these may be priced quite highly and sell out fast, largely due to marketing. Remember the Mosin's with attached folding bayonets from a year or two ago?

It's good to see the actual figures people are getting!

And I agree - as long as you're happy with the purchase it's a good deal!

I’ve bought a few that I thought were too much but then you look around and that seems to be what they sell for
I guess if you want something your gonna have to pay the going rate for it whether it’s overpriced or not
Just have to keep checking some of the sponsors they have good deals sometimes
Tradeex had a sweet deal a couple months back on some k-11 rifles!

That does sound like a good price for a K31 even if it's not matching. I have been seeing them at $800+ regularly as of late.

I can't believe what Mosins are asking these days!

I haven't bought any milsurps lately, don't have the cash flow right now. But the asking prices have sure jumped in the last year or two.

The way I look at it, if it's still on the EE long enough to bump the ad, it's either too high asking price or it's a niche item (like a long branch sniper).

I have had some wonderful scores at gun shows, and some even better scores here on the EE. It is all about patience, perseverance, heavy research, and being in the right place at the right time. The biggest piece of advice I always give someone is know what you're looking at. That goes deeper than just "it's a K31" for example.

Check auction results which show hammer price plus 1/3 for commission and HST. This is the real price people pay.

I don't mean to stir any pot here, but some gun-shows are "notorious" for showing the same items - at the same price - show after show after show... :yingyang:

And the collector angle is indeed fuelling wilder pricing... ;)

Really good deals are sold in minutes on EE. If you are not retaired to stay all day EE, not too many chances to find a great deal.

Salty Pro Tip: it can also help to check the E&E at night, when retirees are asleep and people returning & relaxing from after a day of working are actually posting their "WTS".... ;)

I jest, I jest.... sorta.... :yingyang:

I've been treated to seeing some real collector's caviar lately. Really high prices should get assigned to truly rare, truly perfect rifles. Things like laminate Long Branches, and never issued, never fired low production rifles, or trials rifles and odd balls like mint condition early production No4's. What's been happening is that regular, but somewhat unusual guns are getting hyped out of logical price ranges (no used No5 is worth $1000 - sorry).

The Brazilian rifles posted by Tradeex at 2400+tax was sold. In the same time I was posting the same rifle with all accesories in the same condition of quality on EE for 1900$. Guess what? I was not able to sale for my price. People was willing to pay to dealer more than 600$ extra just to buy from a dealer. I guess that is a kind of mystic to buy from dealer.
