What kind of milsurp prices are people ACTUALLY getting?

IMHO, the best deals are those export Mausers.

You can still find a Brazilian 1935 for $1500, this is an absolute steal for a brand new rifle, of the highest quality ever made, with matching bayo etc...
These 1935 Mausers are one of the rarest Mauser, only 7000 were ever built, south of the border they go for over $3000 US.

20 years ago i purchased a beautiful Springfield Garand at the Longueuil gun show for $450.
Everybody in my group told me that I overpaid by $200. Guess what, I sold the rifle (unfortunately) 10 years later for $1200.

Milsurps are the best investment.
When I lived in Montreal I purchased a mint condition Enfield No4 Longbranch for $75.

Three years ago I purchased a Fazerkerley No4 Mk2 for $280, the rifle is all original, in mint condition and came with a scope mount and a weaver 2.5 scope, which i installed later.

5 years ago I purchased 2 K31 from one of those shops in Calgary. Both rifles are like new, with beautiful walnut stocks and matching bayonets. I paid $400 and $500, which was a lot at the time, because the beat up ones were $250.

Any quality milsurp is a good investment, and you can be sure to get your money back.

There is a Peruvian Mauser 1909 on the EE with 6 BTTs,.
I can't understand why it is still for sale, this is one of the most beautiful Mausers, very similar to the Gewehr 98 with the roller coaster rear sight, and the price is right.

I should clarify I don’t collect purely for investment. I love the history of them. It’s just easier to stomach rising prices when you know you’ll at least get your money back.

Neither do I, but it is always good to know that you don't lose your shirt in case you have to sell.

Interesting thread. I feel the market is obviously cyclical and I predict a price correction in the future. I was lucky enough to get into the game in 2010 when things were somewhat reasonable but now I don’t really peruse the EE unless I’m hunting for something specific, the prices are absolutely out to lunch. I’ve shown my collection to many young bloods that want to get into collecting, but simply can’t on the scale of say one major battle rifle from every major power, but can’t afford to break into it.

The only cyclical can be made by the release of thousands of milsurp (sks for example) in very short time. That will never happen again.

I theorize the older dudes hoarding will begin to die off and the market will be more saturated than it currently is. Realistically without a correction where does it stop? $5000 garands?

I agree that some markets are already saturated. Especially Garands. Good deals can still be had though especially on rarer variants or things people keep butchering like SKS. Everyone that gets drilled and tapped raises market value.

I think some of the markets have plateau'd a bit. I think the russian style rifles have found about the max where people are interested in paying. Garands as well. I have one of the first batch james river ones that came in, seemed rare-ish then, now you don't have to look hard to find stores with them in stock. The barrage of receivers that came in and had rifles built out of them were added to the pile. Even enfields seem to be topping out at what people really want to spend. I don't know the economic term for that phenomenon is.

It's the oddballs that seem to have been jacked up. Things like my repro 1903a4. I paid 1200 when they came in, the K31, m1917s, springfields in general, some of this stuff shot through the roof it seems.

The worst part about collecting milsurps, it's a careful game of I have cash for 1 rifle, here's 4 options, which one do I buy now gambling the other 3 won't skyrocket in price.

I hold agree with this although some of the oddball Russian stuff is still climbing like M38 in the correct stock or special stamped/special receiver Mosins

S. Ontario Gun Shows have lots of good low prices on milsurps and more. Pay them a visit.
Recently seen dozens of lee enfields selling at $500-$600 each. Springfield 1863 $400. Mosin 1891 $300, Colts $400, German 98GEW $550, EIC Bess $1300,1873 winchester $1,000 Type 44 with mum $400. A Type 38 long and mum sat for several shows asking price $325.etc etc etc.

* For those of you who do not pay attention to detail, .......me and another guy had dozen of enfields at 600 ea with no takers. 1863 Springfield sat across from me entire show, last Markham with no price tag. At closing buyer stepped over to me to show his $400 puchase. I got a mosin for 300 off one vendor and a 1894 dated one at a better deal with a 2nd stock thrown in. I bought a Brown Bess last Woodstock Show that needed only a lock and rod for $20! and North Wet Trading musket for $50!!. These sat for a couple hrs, hundreds of men walked on by. The GEW 98 I wanted, and it's asking price was 550 at the last Toronto Military Show, another guy got it before I could. 2 yr ago got my 1853 dated Remington made Mississippi Rifle for 270 buck(Epps has a nicer one at $2600!) It sat for 2 shows. Shoots .54 nicely and took it on 2 black powder deer seasons! Etc etc etc........
Keep going to your local Gun Shows, and Toronto Military Shows. Great history, great rifles, good people and lets support our communities.
What more can one say.

One aspect to consider for the future (it hasn't really materialized yet, except in a limited way for the M305S and various HI-Power knockoffs for the Canadian market) is that, at some point, there will be both high-end and affordable-end "repro" offerings taking some of the price/demand pressure off....

This is going to be a reality - like the prices of '55-'57 Chevs, early Fords etc. will crash, the prices of Milsurps will crash when the demographic changes. I can't see millennials lining up to buy No1's or Garands, or Mausers. The majority don't know enough to ascribe value to them.

Wouldn’t paint us all with the same brush. I am in the Millennial and all I own aside from one .22 is milsurps. Though I do admit I am bit of an anomaly

Some never crash. Look at steel body 32 Fords for example.

To set off another wave of demand all you need is a movie like Enemy at the Gates or Saving Private Ryan. Or a really popular video game like Battlefield.

I've been surprised at how familiar people are with these old milsurps from the movies or gaming.

I’ve done a lot of reading and research since but my earliest interest in WW2 militaria was sparked by Saving Private Ryan, and some of the old movies. My dad and I probably watched a couple every week Battle of Britain, Guns of Nazareth, The Bridge at Remagen and so on. Gaming also got me interested early on. The single biggest factor though was a trip to the military museum in Calgary

I always smile at how the "sniper rifle" in Kelly's Heroes was a Mosin...

Though it may well have been a Mosin sniper-rifle!... :yingyang:

The Brazilian rifles posted by Tradeex at 2400+tax was sold. In the same time I was posting the same rifle with all accesories in the same condition of quality on EE for 1900$. Guess what? I was not able to sale for my price. People was willing to pay to dealer more than 600$ extra just to buy from a dealer. I guess that is a kind of mystic to buy from dealer.

Ive noticed this as well and not just for milsurps.
