What kind of milsurp prices are people ACTUALLY getting?

There's no touchier subject it seems than speculating on the value of another persons s**t lol
Guys get their panties up in a knot real fast when you suggest whatever old chunk of steel and wood they own may not actually be worth $1 BILLION dollars!

Haha, quite true. And the opposite is true as well..... some buyers seem down right upset that you would pay x dollars for a rifle, because they got their rifle for $93 and you shouldn't pay a cent more!

Well I paid $250 shipped for a uncut 1942 long branch without the FTR marks. I paid another $300 to get all the long branch stock and rings to complete it. So $550 total. I paid $875 shipped for a decent looking wartime luger P08. More than what I wanted to pay but I figure $875 is the same as $750 in a store when u add tax and shipping. If I saw it in a store at $750 I would of snapped it up so $875 private I thought was a good deal. Besides the lugers all seem to be over a grand. I don't need mint collectable but a nice example does me just fine. Just started collecting WWII firearms so I hope prices remain stable.

And I know auctions represent actual prices paid but I think people get carried away at auctions. Any I have been to I have seen them pay more than the new price sometimes.

The Brazilian rifles posted by Tradeex at 2400+tax was sold. In the same time I was posting the same rifle with all accesories in the same condition of quality on EE for 1900$. Guess what? I was not able to sale for my price. People was willing to pay to dealer more than 600$ extra just to buy from a dealer. I guess that is a kind of mystic to buy from dealer.

Can’t buy from the EE with a credit card.

A last ditch T99 with ground mum sold in 1 day at an internet dealer's website for $825 + taxes + shipping.

The market price is what the item sells for. It doesn't matter what yesterday's price is.

If you bought your house years ago you aren't going to sell it today at your cost. You are going to sell it at today's market price.

I haven't bought any recently. I am fortunate in having what I want already because asking prices have been too high for me for a few years now. Call me when you are desperate to sell, I'll call you when I win a lottery, otherwise we'll be wasting each other's time.

I'd say they just wanted to use their credit card.

S. Ontario Gun Shows have lots of good low prices on milsurps and more. Pay them a visit.
Recently seen dozens of lee enfields selling at $500-$600 each. Springfield 1863 $400. Mosin 1891 $300, Colts $400, German 98GEW $550, EIC Bess $1300,1873 winchester $1,000 Type 44 with mum $400. A Type 38 long and mum sat for several shows asking price $325.etc etc etc.

we are going at much different shows, I guess.

here is the NOT list:
  • Orangeville
  • Woodstock
  • Markham
  • Jerseyville

the above listed shows are made up of 95% of the same vendors, with the same lame stock that they drag from show to show since several years now.
It's just like a wandering circus.
I have no idea what their motivation is, it doesn't seems to be selling anything, maybe it's just for socializing.

you forgot to add the fact the used guns are priced higher then brand new because they threw on a $50.00 walmart scope

a reputable dealer will stand behind their products, not neccesarily so on ee.

Interesting thread. I feel the market is obviously cyclical and I predict a price correction in the future. I was lucky enough to get into the game in 2010 when things were somewhat reasonable but now I don’t really peruse the EE unless I’m hunting for something specific, the prices are absolutely out to lunch. I’ve shown my collection to many young bloods that want to get into collecting, but simply can’t on the scale of say one major battle rifle from every major power, but can’t afford to break into it.

The nice thing a lot milsurps as you can almost treat them as investments or rentals. The only Milsurp I have that I see myself possibly not making money on is my K98. I think I overpaid a bit but it was my dream rifle and when I found a decent one I pounced. The rest I was decently patient on and see myself making money on.

While this is true, and I stand to at minimum double if not triple my money if I sold them. That’s not why I got into them, and unfortunately that’s kind of what “collecting” has become for milsurps.

We can watch & learn: I personally missed-out on the sub-$800 M-1 Garands, and so I bought a few SVT-40's when they were $250 apiece... :yingyang:

I thought I saw the hype-train building on the K-31, so I bought two for $300 apiece. Granted they were birch & not walnut, but they weren't $800 apiece either....

And, like others, I didn't buy "to invest"; I picked up two K-31's to have a "scoped shooter" and an "unscoped original setup", while with the SVT-40 I basically wanted one from each major arsenal. We Canadians apparently really lucked-out on the SVT-40 even to this day, if we are to believe the Americans who grumble on YouTube as to how expensive & what bad shape their SVT-40's are... :canadaFlag:

But I'll repeat one thing for now: buy those Swedish Mausers now! It's almost ridiculous to see some CG-63's going for their sub-(unsportered)-Enfield prices...
