What Shotgun did you shoot your FIRST bird with? and do you still have it?

If I had to speculate (since I don't exactly remember) I would have to say the little Cooey .410 that my dad had bobbed and shortened to fit my brother and I when we were little. It's still in his safe waiting for the granddaughters to get a bit bigger.

Great to read these stories !
Started on Many sparrows with my Daisy Red Rider BB Gun when I was 7 and first Grouse was with my brand new 12 gu Mossberg model 395K Bolt Action bought by me from SIR on Vaughn St.and brought home on my bike when I was 14 (1959).Sold it years ago to a friend for his son...

Probably a Cooey single. Shot lots of black birds, sparrows, a few magpies & crows before a duck was in range. (probably ducks kept out of range because of shooting black birds :) ). Got a bolt action after that. Finally a new Ithica 37 from Army & Navy fire sale. Was only shotgun for years.

I believe it was a Remington 11-87 Semi Auto popped a goose and lit up a cigar and had a shot of booze. Been hooked ever since. It wasn't mine but the guy who lent it to me to try bird hunting with his son still has it.

Cooey single shot 20 gauge, I shot a lot of ducks and some geese with this shotgun. yes I still own it some 46 years later.

Remington 878 semi that was lent to me by an uncle. Shot a green wing teal on the St Lawrence river in early autumn of 1989, when I was 17. Took it on an overhead shot as it swung high, and I distinctly recall hunting around for it when it landed in the shoreline weeds behind me. Followed that up soon after with my first goose, which was a low passing shot. The 878 has a full choke and a 30 inch barrel, and the #4 lead absolutely crumpled the goose. I was shocked at how hard it went down. And yes, I still have it, but I don't use it.

Rem 870 express magnum when I bought it 13 years ago. It still shoots just as good today as the day I took it out of the box. Looks a little more tacti-cool now though lol.

my dad had an old (stevens.. I think?) rust peppered single shot shotgun. I used to watch pheasants fly across the road on my school bus during season...when I got home I would walk down the gravel road to the spot and get em......
I took many pheasants with that old gun ..I never missed...
I really wished he still had it

a Baikal single shot 12g that I got for my 16th birthday.....don't have the gun anymore. Heard a grouse chirp and knew he was really close but couldn't see him. He came out from under a bush right next to my foot. Shot it about 5 feet from the barrel and unfortunately blew the s**t out of it.

Mine was a .410 h&r topper single shot still have it and still use it for grouse, first 12 ga was a Stevens sxs and still have it but haven't shot it for about 35 years stock was cracked, would be interested in where to get a new stock for it.

I shot my first bird just shy of 50 years ago, with a Crosman MKI .22 cal CO2 pellet pistol... that gun shot hundreds of birds and hares and I still have it.
