What to do when you come across a tree stand?

How many of these altercations have resulted in a hunter being ACCIDENTALLY shot, guys in bright colours are mistakingly shot every year, something to think about, there are nutz every where

If that was the case one might want to spend a bit in gas to find a different spot to hunt.

Thus is true but do you really want everyone down here driving up your way and crowding your hunting spots? Plus a lot of guys down here don't want to go anywhere but down the road. I hunt 90B as well as 61 so I have options but most down here do not do that. It gets crowded at times down here, people just need to respectful of each other and hunt safe, noatter how you hunt.

neither do the other hunters using different methods. You don't see tree stand hunters chiming in about how trucks, atv's and ground blinds left unattended piss them off because so and so is claiming the land........ Why are tree stands such a big deal? I have hunted for close to 30 years in BC and can easily count on 2 hands the number of tree stands I have seen and never had a problem with the owner of one claiming the land. Truck and atv hunters have been far more brazen with their ownership like attitudes over the years, even had a crooked logging company try and say they owned the land when they had a timber lease, I think the owner went to jail finally for all the stuff he did

No... but I never hear spot and stalk hunters getting pissed about walking and stalking and finding someone in a tree stand, but I hear both first hand and otherwise about tree stand hunters yelling at people that walk past their stand and "disturb their hunt".....

the hunters of today use much less common sense today than years ago, I have had bad encounters with almost every type except for those that use tree stands because they are so few compared to the rest and most you will never see anyways.

I was just out this weekend, park vehicle on the side of a road that dead ends less than a km ahead. Me and my buddy walk down the road and setup on the bank watching the cut line spaced out so we can cover the whole area.
Now with about a half hour of shooting light left a couple guys in a pickup drive slow down the road, no big deal right? well I look through my binoculars and know they are looking right at me, they keep driving slow to the end of the road, park, get in and out a few times slamming doors and tailgate, then after 10 min or so drive back out the road going even slower, I actually looked at my watch and it to them over 5 min to travel the 500yds the whole while staring at me and then my buddy making hand gestures like they were upset about something.....

who here is right? oh and I know they knew the road is a dead end, I have hunted that area for many years and it is a truck I have seen many times before.

You both have equal rights to hunt that area.....why set up on a road that accesses a view of a cutline and then be upset when some one drives past....doesn't make sense to me.

Depends what you are asking.... Were you wrong in sitting on a cut line that they wanted to road hunt?.... absolutely not... are they wrong for driving down the road looking down cut lines?... nope....

Are they right to be making gestures and pissed off at you for sitting in the cut line they wanted to hunt?.... nope...

If you put a tree stand on that cutline doe sit change the scenario?.... Is that now your cut line?..... nope

Sure, more the merrier..
I would prefer more hunters rather than less because higher hunter activity moves the deer around... There are less hunters where I hunt than there was 5yrs ago and substantially less than 10yrs ago.. Deer are finding it easier to find those quiet spots and staying put... More hunters in the bush, push them from these spots taking them out of their comfort zones... More deer moving = a far better hunt IMO.

I would never use someone's blind. But if I get there first in the morning and set up near your spot, tough #### buddy.
And if you think letting a couple rounds off in anger as you walk away will do you any good, think again. I would put just as many 00buck rounds through your tree stand.
Crown land is crown land. If you can't roll out of bed first than it's your loss.

did I say I was upset?.......just asked what you would think was right, I even said "no big deal right". Their actions while driving by looking at the other hunters in the area speak volumes for what kind of people they are.

the answer you gave below is all I was asking, my post made it clear that I didn't care they were driving by as many people sometimes do and that does not affect hunting in the area

Then good on you... Everyone's land, everyone's right... Not sure how this relates to tree stand hunters claiming land though...

Always seems that someone wants to be on the rock you are standing on or jigging where someone else is when fishing, also seems like there is somebody who wants to be where another person is going to be hunting or posting. That other spot always seems to look better.

It's a big country out there.

from the posts I read here I see a lot of other types of hunters feeling more entitled than a tree stand hunter by their statements of what may happen if you piss them of by being there before them or if they happen upon your removeable stand when nobody is around. Thought my post would show that nobody should be entitled no matter the means you choose to hunt with but it appears that idea is lost on many who partake in different types of hunting

Not in Ontario it's not!

We can bait, and set up feeders, or food plots, game camera's etc.

If I go through a #### ton of work for months prior to the hunt, I expect some respect from a fellow hunter.

I have come across this several times, and in great locations, but I move on out of respect for the guy that put in all that work. I just haven't had time these last couple years to do it myself, and don't expect to profit from someone elses hard work.

Next year I plan on baiting for bears in Spring and Fall, and setting up a couple spots for deer. If I find someone in my spots, we will quietly discuss the best direction for them to leave....

With an atttitude like this about crown land, I wouldn't feel one bit sorry for you when you come to find your stand long gone. I can tell you if I was there and you think your telling me to leave, I'd laugh in your face.

I think you have missed the recurring them in this thread that people who have put up a stand and set up a cam and or bait station feel they have done "work"...
