Saved up enough money to buy a brand new Rem 700 BDL in 270. Went hunting the following year with it, fell asleep in a tree, landed on it breaking the stock. 18yr old learned about gravity that day.

I'll play ... Winchester 94AE 30-30. Shot my first deer with it then moved on to a .308BLR .... I've never been the same since as I joined this racket club called CGN

First rifle I ever hunted with was a 303 British my DAd gave me, it had norifling left and had a hard time hitting a piece of plywood at 100 yds. Then I moved up, bought a Lefthand Remington 742 semi auto .308win. They should have called that thing a jamomatic.

I borrowed rifles for hunting until I was 20 - first a .303 sporter , then a .270, then a .308, then a .30-30.

First rifle I ever bought for myself was a husqvarna 3000 crown grade in .30-06. I picked it up from an old-timer that was selling everything larger than .243 because he "just wasn't big enough to like shooting them anymore". I stupidly sold it shortly after joining cgn with the gleam of something new in my eyes. The Monte Carlo stock on that husky didn't fit me well at all - would nail me in the cheekbone every time I shot it (I was not smart enough at the time to try anything other than the low rings I bought it with). It was an accurate, spiteful, painful ##### of a rifle - and I miss it.

First purchase was a new BLR in .243 with 4x40 Bushnell. Used it for 2 years and then upgraded to a tang safety .270 Ruger 77. Wish I still had that one, for some reason my friend refuses to sell it back to me :)

Parker hale in 308 . Still have that rifle. Accurate and handsome. It's killed quite a few critters for me.
I bought it off the used rack at the LGS and a marlin 39A followed me home the same day, cost me just under 700$ for both. I remember the walking out of that store with those two guns under my arm thinking I was the luckiest guy in the world.

Borrowed and used family and friends' rifles in 30-30, 308, 30-06 for the first few years of hunting big game, until my father bought me a used Sako Deluxe in 300 Win Mag when I was 21.
First rifle I bought myself was a Browning A Bolt Composite Stalker in 280 Rem in '92. Took a couple of mule deer with it. Learned to handload for that rifle and shot it a lot. Favourite load was the max load of IMR 4350 and the 162 gr Hdy Interlock; would put 5 into less than an inch at 100 yards. Awesome cartridge! Still one of my favourites!

Have had 3 other 280's (Rem 700 Mtn rifles; just could not get good accuracy with any of them) over the years,
and now, finally, have a lh Rem 700 XCR rebarrelled to the 280. Have both the original XCR stock and a LSS stock glass and pillar bedded for that barrelled action.
Shoots the discontinued factory Federal Premium 140 gr AccuBond load sub-MOA. Need to find a handload for that still.
