What Was your first deer shot with?

Bear Whitetail compound bow

An original Bear Whitetail compound bow. It looked just like this one. I hunted with it for about 30 years and sold it to a young fellow-CGNer a few years ago who was just starting in bow hunting and wanted a starter bow to see if he liked the sport. I hope that it is giving him as much pleasure as it gave me for many years.

Regards
Robert

25-06 Sako borrowed from my Father. Watching a swamp edge, fork horn walked up behind me in the snow. Didn't hear or see him coming, until he took a deep breath at about 4 yards. I turned and seen him, swung around and made a perfect heart shot as he was tearing out of there.
Took my 15 year old step son out last fall and he shot his first deer, a nice doe at about 85 yards with my Sako 85 in 260 Rem.
You will never forget your first.

first deer was shot with a 700 bdl stainless 280 remington 160 partition, this year same gun and load but 28 deer in between then and now, bought it when i was 20 and now i am 41 love it and hope there is a few more in her for me. Bought it at wanstalls way back with my boatshow overtime cheque 613 tax in

I shot a button buck with a 54 cal Hawken replica my grandfather gave me. It was an Italian job, imported by Safari Arms. He assembled it from a kit and finished the woodwork. I spooked up a doe with twins and ran up to the next clearing. The doe and the second calf crossed a little farther up, the button jumped out at about twenty yards and froze. I hit him right between the eyes.

Took my second deer a few weeks later with my old man's 700 ADL in 270 Winchester. A small 3x3 with a double lung shot just shy of 100 yards.

*almost forgot, the first gun I ever TOOK deer hunting was a sportered No.4 Mk.I with a classic Weaver 4x on top. My forays with it were unsuccessful however...

I shot my first deer 55 years ago at about 5 yards, between the lettuce and corn patch. It was more like slaughtering one of the farm animals than hunting. I used an old single shot Cooey Ranger 22rf, loaded with shorts. The long rifle cartridges were 3 cent per box more and frugality was the byword of the day.

The first time I actually hunted and killed a deer was 50 years ago. It was about 35 yards away and the rifle was a full wood No1 MkIII*. I got the rifle as wages for picking rocks and roots out of the field of a local rancher for a month. He was generous enough to throw in a 48 round box of fmj ammunition.

Not quite five decades ago for me for my first deer (white tail). Winchester 94 30/30, Dominion 170 gr KKSP. The rifle belong to a friend of my parents (dairy farmers). I got to hunt the woodlot at the back end of the farm. I'm not sure of the range but under 50 yards. Broadside shot that pass through both lungs and exited. Jeebus, I was excited when that buck dropped but at the same time I felt just a little sad.

In addition to the 30/30, over the years I've used 303 British, 30/06, 308 Win, 300 Savage, 32 Winchester Special, 44 magnum (rifle) and .243 Win.

My First deer and my FIFTH deer were about three minutes apart... They both went down to a Winchester 94 in .32 Special... And so did the three in between.

Remington 700 in 22-250, a nice doe at about 80 yds when I was 15 yrs old.One of the guys in the gang lent it to me, after loading dad's old 30-30, I levered one into the chamber and the hammer didn't stay back and she went off hitting the ground 5 ft ahead of me.Dad took it into the gunsmith after and something was wrong with it.
