What was your first Milsurp?

The first rifle I purchased using my freshly minted pal was 43 tikka m91 but I did have a friend buy a 91/30 and a Yugo m59 for me before my pal was ready.

My first milsurp was also my first deer rifle.

A $36 Mosin Nagant from S.I.R. in Winnipeg.

We were such idiots, didn't even clean the grease out of it, (amazing it didn't blow up in our faces). Used milsurp ammo to "sight it in" then scrambled to find soft point 7.62x54R ammo for hunting. During deer season the cold weather froze up the bolt so we were forced to degrease it then.

Was stored in a damp basement and got rusty until dad sold it.

Thats my horror story

I hope to purchase a nice condition Finnish M39 someday and redeem myself

A BRNO 98 much like the one in my recent thread about "humped" rifles. That was in 1965. I now have...several...milsurps. :p

(Anyone who has been in my gun room will know that the above is the understatement of all time.) :)

M1 Garand, $125

M1 Garand, $125. Bought from mean guy at Hardware store. He had a bullet trap in the back of store. lifted a little trap door in floor, slammed in an 8rd clip, emptied it as fast as possible . Sold! Those were the days. I bought an old Smith &Wesson Model 10 I think from him same time for $100. I was a happy college freshman, living on Kraft dinner and gutbombs ( my roomies girlfriend worked at a fastfood joint and would bring us bags of burgers at the end of her shift) , the one's unsold at closing. Good times.

A Carl Gustav M96 Mauser model 1896 with beautiful French walnut stock.
I purchased this rifle 33 years ago in Zürich Switzerland, then brought it to Canada in 1987.
Still have it.:)

Pretty sure mine was a Swede Mauser short rifle mfg by Carl Gustav in the venerable 6.5x55mm of course. ;)
