What was your last big game taken with

What didn't you like about it?

Comparing it to the usual 30 and 375 calibers Iv used, the time until expire was far too long then what I like to see. The shot was about 40-50 yards, centre double lung. The bull lasted well over a minute, closer to two minutes probably.

Ime, the same shot with a 30 or 375 caliber, the expiry is a lot faster. The meat loss from that little 140gr bullet was alot worse as well. I didn’t hit shoulder but the shock traveled a long ways into it on the off side.

Normally I wouldn’t use the 6.5 for a moose, but I didn’t expect to see one opening morning while taking my kiddo to school and it’s all I had on hand lol.

After shotgun deer in Ontario (12g Mossberg 835, rifled barrel with Hornady SST sabots) at about 10 yards 15 minutes after legal shooting light on opening morning (deer snuck up behind my tree stand and I shot him "wrong-handed" as he walked past me) my last big game was an adult doe in Michigan with my Henry Big Boy Colt 45 (handloaded +P ammo with Hornady 250gr XTP bullet) at about 40 yards about 10 minutes before last shooting time on opening firearm day.

Thanks for explaining.

I shot this white tail last Fall with my Ruger single shot in .303 British ,I had Bill Leeper build it for me in 2010, I consider this the culmination of everything I love in a hunting rifle.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye compact magnum chambered in 300rcm, topped with a leupold vari-x III 2.5-8x36. Was shooting factory hornady 150 gr. SST. Was posted up on one side of a thick swampy creek bed, watched a cow and bull moose feeding 50 yards to my right when a nice little 8 point appeared heading towards me to my left. Shot him at about 40 yards, didn’t react to the hit, shot him again at 25 yards, he turned went 10 yards and expired.

Last big game animal was taken with a custom Winchester Model 70, chambered in the 240 Weatherby Magnum. Has a 27" Bob Jury barrel, 1-10 twist, shooting 90 grain Nosler Accubonds at 3,660 fps. I put this big antelope buck to bed the day before opening morning. Found him at first light at one mile away. Stalked him at 175 yards, one shot, DRT! Made the B&C record book.

Bull moose, 105ish meters, Ruger no1 S 9.3x62 286gn Nosler Partition going 2400+ fps, Leupold vari X3i 1.5-5x20! Day 7 of a 8 day canoe trip, moved camp a few times along the way, on day five we set camp on a gravel bar, spent the night but the next day we thought it wasn’t great so we moved camp across the river on a high bank in a young pine forest! Lots of walking around, Paxil g down stream, tracking back up, calling sitting eating napping….. on day 7, same thing all day long plus a bit of 22 shooting! Supper comes along we are done we ate well, I drank a little, guys are sitting around the fire bull####ing, so I decide to walk along the high bank going up stream rifle in hand and on the way I grab a big stick and started to trash and grunt!! Five minutes later a nice bull moose was on the ground across the river and the work was on!! One shot, the moose was looking my way of course so I place that partition between his neck and his left shoulder, bullet nicked the aorta the through the heart broke a rib on the opposite side to finish its run into the opposite leg. About 3+ feet of penetration! That bull yield about 480lbs of dressed meat! Really fat! Ext day we paddled the rest of the way to the take out, did the shuttle, got home and hung that guy up in my shop!!

It was my best moose hunt so far, not a big moose, smaller than others I shot bit bigger than some I shot too!!
Now I’m hoping to get a bison in the next 3 weeks!! With an other 9.3x62!

great hunt ..big moose

Good choice of broad heads, hard to find around here ,but I've used them for black bears for years and always had great luck with them.

Yeah, they are great little fixed blades, it is hard to find fixed blade heads that fly exactly like a field point, even with a properly tuned bow. I have shot dozens of animals with the 100's and 125's... and even shot a bull moose with the tiny little 75 grain heads, the bull only went 30 yards. That dinky little 75 grain head does not inspire much confidence when pointed at a bull moose at 15 feet, but it did the job cleanly.

Pretty sure rocket steelhead are over the top expandable 3 blades.

Bc/Yukon moose
300prc
212gr eldx 3000fps
515 yards

Bull tensed up on impact then went up on its hind quarters and fell backwards dead with his antlers stuffed into the dirt and his feet pointed to the sky. Bullet was found in the hide on the offhand side. Was very impressed with the cartridge and bullet combo

This is the Rocket Ultimate Steel 100 grain, gives a better perspective of it's diminutive size.
