What's a good affordable must have pump shotgun? Alien defese/general purpose

Sorry to annoy you all with my undecisiveness, that's jut how I am.

But just wanted to update, as I've strayed from my original title for something affordable and was up 700$-800$ budget range by going with SuperNova, I saw this Mosberg 590A1 G4C had listed (link) and I love that one to, A LOT. If they had that in stock when I saw the listing, I would have probably ordered that one. But the model number 50774 seem to be discontinued.... and I can only find 20 inch 590A1 looks like now.

So all that to say, I'll go to Cabeals tonight and they have demos so I'll be able to handle them and feel different brands like you guys have suggested and at that point I guess I'll see if I'm more into the SuperNova or the 590A1, or maybe another recommendation from here.

I went to Cabelas and got to say I enjoyed more the Mossberg, it felt more like a classic shotgun VS the SuperNova. But not to say I didn't like the SuperNova either, if I didn't already had an AR style gun and this was my first gun, I'd probably get a SuperNova, and with the pistol grip. Unfortuntely though can't seem to find a Mossberg for the price with the features I want.

I found out about the Winchester SXP Defender, they a solid pick to? I think only one person mentioned SXP. I saw this offering, a bit more in the original budget and it looks sweet. I love having something different than black to. No ghost sight but it has a improved glo bead, me like. I think I will order this unless someone has anything to say against it, quickly before I change my mind again :ROFLMAO:

Benelli Nova Tactical with 18.5 inch barrel and ghosts sites. I would not buy anything with a longer than 18.5 inch barrel, unless you will hunt birds. 28 inch barrel for home defense? Really.

I actually had a Benelli Nova Tactical, got it for almost free in a package deal. Was a bit scratched up and while I was thinking about if I should keep it or not, it sold.

SXP was ok. It's the "modern" version of the old Winchester 1300. SXP is made in Turkey, and unlike the old 1300 Defender doesn't have a mag tube the full length of the barrel. I've owned both, and pretty quickly sold the SXP... still have the 1300. A used 1300 is much nicer.

As others have mentioned be careful of cheap Turkish made guns. You are certainly playing the field though, good on ya.

I figure since it's attached to the Winchester name, it's above those ~ 200$ 300$ weirdly named ones. But I will keep that in mind.

Man, maybe. How's the gun overall out of the box as is? The stock is great and forend? I definitely do not want a pistol grip.

If I get that, it could fit in my budget if I don't need to add much to it. Only shell holder, but I'm leaning to those velcro things on Amazon by Elite spanker

EDIT: Oh I realise I was cheking the Nova as well,
Don't waste your money on the amazon shot cards, they don't hold well or strecth out quick and drop shells when firing.
Fine for keeping on there for a first load but when firing they'll drop shells.

SJ hardware makes the real deal, a little more money but they work and they last even when being left full for long periods of time.

Benelli Supernova :) you won’t be unhappy, lighter in wallet but buy once cry once you know.
Sorry to hijack the thread. I bought the supernova tactical 14" with collapsible stock. I guess it's good for HD but then I wish to use the same for trap shooting which I never tried, with a 26 to 28 barrel of course. Any insight on such? Or should I just get another shotgun with 26-28 barrel since the barrel costs not much less than a whole shotgun.

Okay so I went 180 from my original post....... I ordered a Benelli SuperNova Tactical 18" with ghost rings and stock. Well, I'm going to pick it up at Cabelas tomorrow, if that doesn't work I'll order ship it. Screw it I guess, it's going to be a nice shotgun. Only thing I dislike seems like is the mag tube capacity but eh oh well, more reason to have a side holder.... which brings me to that, unfortuntely seem like no choie to buy a 150$ holder bbecause the way the receiver is made can't fit a lot on a velcro card. I know I can upgrade mag tube as well but $$.
Dad converted a Super Nova hunting shotgun into a tactical shotgun over 20 years ago. We both love it.

Didnt have optic mounts back then so it was D&T. The mag tube ext was hard to find in the real tree camo.

You wont be disappointed.

I had another question if someone could advise, since I'm new to shotugns and the ones folks made me shoot at the range had a red dot or ghost sights, how far can you shoot with a bead sight? Since it's mainly a range toy, some days I will probably want to shoot slugs down 50 yards, or even 100 if that is possible?

I realise the SXP only has that, I thought the glo thing was a hybrid between ghost sight and bead but it's just to see the bead more.

Whatever distance you want as long as you can figure the hold off. 50 and 100 yards no issue. Bead is just like a gun without a rear sight. You just use the reciever like a rear sight. Center it and make sure its not too high or low.

I had a 13" bead front sight shotgun with a 45acp adapter and shot it out 200 yards.

1. You don't need a "home defence" gun in Canada - that's kinda silly. A "cabin defence" gun, maybe/sure. [stirs the pot].

2. Wolverine Supplies has a Mossberg Shockwave cerakoted for $399. It's Canuck pricing for a proper pump. I feel racking that thing should scare people away and if you gotta pull it'll be good for bears too.

Yeah when someone showed me that deal, I was going to get that along with the MGA stock. But the store ran out of stock and they charge me 70$ shipping, so then another 20-30$ shipping for ordering the stock from another store and now I'm up to ~ 700$. So I started looking at other options because I refuse to waste that much on shipping alone. The SuperNova was good pick, ghost sights and good reputation but I didn't really like the feel of it compared to a mossy when I went in person.

So now I'm just debating on if a bead sight is good enough for my use or if I should go ghost sight. That will determine what I get really, I rather get a all in one package.

Oh okay, because yeah I was trying to figure out, I'm used to AR iron sights. Makes sense.

If you don't plan on hunting waterfowl were non-toxic (steel) shot is required and you don't want to spend a lot of money then I would recommend a used 870 from 60's or 70's. Well built with walnut stocks and blued steel. Not popular with waterfowlers because the older barrels and tighter chokes are not recommended for steel shot. Should be excellent value for the money.
