what's so wrong with the Rem 710/770?

As for hunting success I have nothing to say except I will need to lock my freezer. It keeps filling up with game meat every year. What am I doing wrong?

The post above was directed to a different thread , namely one about too many non hunters posting on what they do not have experience with. Somehow it ended up here instead.

How ?????

I do not use a Rem of any flavour so I was not planning to post here.

NAA...it doesn't but it does come in 7mm-08..and i was a dork and bought a 25-06 instead..it's not a bad calibre but now i want the 7...and for 320 bucks how can you not afford to.

710's and 770's are also "competing with" lots of used rifles in their price range, and I think that's where they really can't compare. I've got two 30-06 bolt rifles, one a Mauser 96 and one a sporterized P17 and neither of these rifles cost more than $200. They're both proven and reliable rifles in good condition and I'd never chose a 710 over either of them.

It's not like a M-700 is expensive. Why pay for second-rate crap!? I don't get it! First time I saw one of those M-710's it was my nephew's. He was all excited to show me his new rifle and I was interested in looking at it. As soon as I saw it I was like, Pfffffttt!! Wtf!?
But he was young and didn't know any better and the thing was dirt cheap.

Now he wants to unload it. He has no use for it now that he's been exposed to better quality rifles. He would have been way better off to have never bought it, obviously

M-710 & M-770 = JUNK :slap:

Wow I read through this thread and actually feel kind of dirty for owning this gun now. Secretly though I still love it. I bought it at a gun show in 30.06 with a Bushnell Sharpshooter scope on it 3 or 4 years ago. From what I remember I bought it because it was the cheapest gun I could find that I could hunt most big game with. Plus I liked the stock minus the plastic trigger guard, still do. I lost my deer killing virginity with this gun and still hunt with it from time to time. I take it to the range here and there as well. 2" groups at 100 yards is an honest report on it's performance from a regular guy (no sniper rifle here but good enough for deer). The way I figure with this gun is that I might not be so into hunting or guns had I not bought this gun. Sure there are other guns in the budget category that are more upgradeable or even come with some nicer features etc, but when I bought this gun I only needed to know that it would kill a deer or moose, I didn't know about the finer points of a guns inner workings. I have never had a shell not eject and I have shot the gun hundreds of times. On the flip side of that though is after those hundreds of shots the action is still as stiff as the first time I cycled it. I agree with those who say that if you are going on an expensive hunting trip why bring a cheap gun and risk the hunt. Thats why I drive around the bush in a beat up 1980's jeep cherokee with a remington 710 having the greatest time of my life. Just think of the "kick in the ass" story I might have one day when I could have shot that huge trophy deer but my gun jammed! At the end of the day I will still have been out hunting and will still have a smile on my face.

Side note: I sold my good ol' 710 today and am stepping up to a savage 10FCP police special in.308 as my new target/hunting rig. Yeah the fcp is not a perfect hunting gun but hey I am not rich enough for another (workin on upgrading from the aforementioned jeep cherokee) so dual purpose it will be. Just wanted to throw in one more "hoorah" for the loathed Remington 710. From start to finish this gun never did me any wrong. So if you own one or are thinking of getting one my experiece with the gun was nothing but great.

I own a 710 in .270 and I admit the action could should be improved, but it has good groupings, and mine has never failed me, always extracts and i have found the bolt is working more smoothly over time. I have owned mine for 3 years and for the money I am happy, I bought a cheap rifle cause I didnt have alot of money and it was scoped for a good price, Im not afraid to take it in the bush and scratch it. The stevens 200 is a good deal to but I took a couple shots with my friends and I did not like to stock on it I found it very unconfortable, so i guess It all boils down to shoot what you like or can afford!
