What's the Appeal of the Cz/Vz?

I only care about the non-restricted CZ-858 and the non-restricted CSA .223 Vz 58. Couldn't care about the short barrel ones. I like mine to look original so i don't do any tactical stuff to mine. I got sick of having to clean the CZ-858 so much so I got the CSA .223 Vz 58. I don't mind paying $8 a box of 20 and clean a lot less then $4 a box of 20 and clean a lot more. Although, I do find shooting 5 rounds of non corrosive ammo though the gun at the end of the say helps speed up the cleaning job buy quite a bit.
 
While I have both platforms, to be quite honest I enjoy shooting my VZ58 more. Seems to be the one rifle I constantly reach for when heading to the range. For me it just fits better!!!
 
I had so much stuff mounted on my AR it felt like it weighed "a ton". I picked up the 11.5" VZ58 in 7.62x39 and a case of corrosive ammo just check it out. After one range session I was sold on it. Cheap to shoot, light, and I liked the punch of the rounds vs .223.
I eventually sold my AR 'cause it was collecting dust...but have since picked up a "vintage AR" (SP1) which has satisfied my AR crave. Since i shoot inside 50yrds mostly, I prefer these stripped down light weight rifles with iron sights. YMMV

Whats the appeal?? Compared to what?? ARs? Tavors? Rainbows?? Fake dog ####??The VZ line is more reliable, less expensive, just as upgradable and shoot a round not designed for coyotes, unless you go the vz 556 route...so all of the above and some. When comparing it too your typical black rifle that is.

Except I'm pretty sure for the tasty Vz pictured above, only paper is on the menu. Also pretty sure that with the accessories the price tag is approaching most ARs. Just bear defense? What about zombie and beaver defense? Will the slide fire stock allow me to shoot into space?

A lot of the Vz's I've seen have been enhanced with various rails, AR stocks and other upgrades. And a fair number of them are also restricted, hence my question... Most bulk .223 will run $350-$400 for 1000 rounds, and it's also non-corrosive (conceding that it is more expensive though). But I agree - maybe I need to find an opportunity to shoot one.

Actually, I've kind of become a subscriber to the "less is more" philosophy - so that's true to the extent I have very few to actually send. :)

lol. The AR platform is a love-hate relationship, because I love tinkering and playing around with it - to the point where it drives me up the wall because I wish they'd stop making accessories for it... ;)

Yes or No? and which one should he get!

I vote yes, VZ58, non restricted in 7.62X39. The M4 version is a nice place to start.

ha: Nice try... but you do realize it's not going to work... right? It doesn't work with scotch, it doesn't work with knives, it doesn't work with watch... it certainly won't work with guns... You'll just end up with 'more' nicer things...

Shoulders well. Cheap to shoot. Easy to Maintain. Not heavy. Non-res. Most importantly, I like the way it looks.

I'll buy an AR before I'd buy a restricted VZ though.

My CZ has been incredibly reliable , costs diddly to shoot and fits me well .
The added bonus is that everyone I meet wants to give it a dance . Helps me meet new peeps .
Could be a new logo

I was gonna get a single handgun in 9mm. Then I got my SKS instead.. Shooting at the range, I realized I needed a rimfire rifle, but bought a Buck Mark pistol instead. That means I still gotta buy a 10/22 to accompany my SKS (several mods pending) for rifle nights. Next on my list will be a Shadow and reloading supplies. After that, I really should get a shotty for trap, but the call of the 858 is almost irresistible. Almost tempted to buy one now, but gotta finance a trip overseas and a wedding gift (my b.i.l. finally tripped up and popped the question) in addition to a possible move to Alberta.. Then I can slow down and pick up a wheelgun and a flintlock. That should be ok to satify me.. Riiiiight? :D

Ive got a bunch of guns. My cz 858 with early czech REAL wood furniture is a crowd pleaser. 99% of the time, when I ask what gun is a new shooters favorite they say the 58. This is after having shot a tavor, non-restricted storm, sub 2000, 8.5" 870, 12.5" 870 and the random filer guns.
It is one of my favorites. It is cheap to feed, light, 100% reliable. It is my only NEVER sell gun...
 
So how come all the people who have been preaching about the reliability of the CZ have forgot to mention the "Gremlin" as it is often referred to on CGN, I still think there great, fun, cheap guns, but from what I have seen, range only toys.

I know these rifles must work reliably as no military (other the the US during Vietnam) would issue there Soldiers a broke down POS rifle, and these rifles ARE deployed by many nations, world wide. I'm sure those weapons are very reliable.

However, maybe I have been out of the loop, but the CZ's I have seen have always jammed every once in a while, and it has always been due to this "Gremlin". My old man had a CZ, it worked good with SURPLUS, maybe 1 failure in every 250-300 rounds (always the gremlin did it), the he tried shooting non corrosive MFS through it and I swear 1 in every 4 rounds it did the "gremlin" thing. I had never heard of a rifle doing that until then. I was under the impression this was quite common with Canadian CZ's, as later I saw another guy at the range experience the same thing.

Also, some crazy in Montreal just tested the reliability of his CZ858 and from I read, the rifle jamming (Must have been the gremlin's) was the key contributing factor to him getting arrested so quickly and not kiling more people. Anyone care to ask him for his take on the CZ's reliability? Just sayin';)

I agree with TV-Press Pass, I would not trust my life to one.
