What's the Appeal of the Cz/Vz?

This is my old girl with adapter. The new girl is a little more high speed and less stylish.

I love this gun. It's great to train with because it non res and I love AK ergos. Very fast and robust. Also those hot mlitary x39 rounds punch through anything and I have a small #### so that works for me.

I've now had three czs. I've never had the "gremlin"... The only issues I've had were caused by operator error or abuse.
I would trust my life to mine.

Laugh2Laugh2Laugh2

LOL

that really made my day.

I've now had three czs. I've never had the "gremlin"... The only issues I've had were caused by operator error or abuse.
I would trust my life to mine.

So really what your saying, is you'd trust your life to a sneaky little gremlin;)

I here where your coming from, really, I have heard others say this too, "Well, mine has never been attacked by gremlins" but yet others talk about it happening regularly, and I mean I have actually seen it happen on two completely different guns. Hard to trust something like that with anything, let alone life and limb. I mean, if I had one and shot a few thousand rounds through it without stoppage's then maybe I could trust it a bit more, but I stop trusting anything that has regular stoppages, doesn't matter what it is. AR, CZ, HK, Swiss, IWI, if it's regularly failing something is wrong with it. Unfortunately, the Canadian CZ's seem to have had some issues, I don't pretend to know why.

The gremlin doesn't bother me in the least.
If your that worried about the mechanics of a stoppage maybe you need a pump gun??? Oh wait they fail from time to time. Any gun might fail.
I have faith in MY ability with the cz/vz.

No worries here man, not about Gremlin's or stoppages, I don't shoot a CZ:p

On a more serious note it may not have happened to you, and that's great, but apparently it happens to others. I would hate to be one of the unlucky ones.

Anyone else have a take on these CZ Gremlin's???

Lol. Good stuff.
I'm not stuck either. I've got a couple others.
Even side by side with my tavor new shooters go for the cz... I also like it more. If I could only pick one the tavor would be long gone...

Bwahaha , you made me laugh , that's a Gooder !
I like the way you've got your cz dressed , that is FINE !

Eh. Ive never tried one past an SKS, and I DID like it so one is in my future; but Ive never been one for the assault style. I much prefer old school reach out and touch someone. Im not saying assault style doesnt have its place, it absolutely does - just my personal style is much longer range. (Obviously, I am a fan of the Reds items...)

Sorry to hear about the small ####, chris. Nice gun though. :dancingbanana:

No gremlins in mine, just reliable.

A nice little "shove" recoil that's easy for anyone. Ergonomics better than you'd expect. Shoulders fast and comfortable. Trigger isn't made for sniping, but IMO it's outstanding for more general use from a "general use" rifle that you might need to make rapid and standing/offhand shots from. Even with a long 18.5" non restricted barrel, this thing is LIGHT. Ok, not "original C-8" light, but it IS lightweight just the same!

Lots of Canadian accessories, and while I don't get excited about all the rails and Magpul, the peep/ghost apertures, fibre front post, extended mag and bolt releases, the brakes and two-handled bolt carriers do have my attention!

Frankly this is a better rifle than the world as a whole realizes. We should be thankful we are allowed to buy these rifles in all the barrel lengths we want, AT REASONABLE PRICES. Kind of a hidden gem really.

Simply, it's a fun gun. Affordable to buy, plenty of aftermarket parts, very affordable to shoot... and damn fun! If you have a folding stock, fold that sucker and rapid fire that bad boy... can't hit squat but it's fun!

So how come all the people who have been preaching about the reliability of the CZ have forgot to mention the "Gremlin" as it is often referred to on CGN, I still think there great, fun, cheap guns, but from what I have seen, range only toys.

Don't know about you... but if something isn't quite right with one of my firearms (or my car for that matter)... I usually do my best to have it fix.

I had two 'gremlins' on my first trip to the range... had the bolt carrier tabbed... two crates of ammo later, it's been 100% reliable...

Also, some crazy in Montreal just tested the reliability of his CZ858 and from I read, the rifle jamming (Must have been the gremlin's) was the key contributing factor to him getting arrested so quickly and not kiling more people

For all we know, he might have tried to do like Marc Lepine... and tried to modify his rifle to shoot 'faster'...

I read about the gremlin but I have never had any issue with mine. I have well over 1.4 K through my CSA VZ58 with tons of people shooting it and never had any issue aside from mag related issues. I cleaned up the mags, and left them loaded up for a week and they work fantastic now.

How many rounds do I have to have through it before I can "bet my life on it? " :D :nest:

Except I'm pretty sure for the tasty Vz pictured above, only paper is on the menu. Also pretty sure that with the accessories the price tag is approaching most ARs.

True... but I can go buy a non restricted VZ new for $700, and for another $50 I can get it in Maple :D which is extremely patriotic. The CSA in 7.5 is ~$850, the 11" is ~$850 and the 19" is ~$650. So its up to you what you want,

Unlike the AR you really don't need a lot of accessories for a VZ IMO... just extra mags.
If you do want rails for lasers, grips, lights and etc, you can score the polymer quad rail handguards for $60+ from a variety of vendors.

The only thing I like on my VZ is a sight, so you have options ranging from a cheap scout rail up front, or a fancy AK style in the rear, then throw any optic on there. I don't need fancy rails or a AFG/ grip, I use the mag as a front grip and it works well. I don't really need anything else for it... perhaps sling and copious amounts of surplus.

Just bear defense? What about zombie and beaver defense?

Zombie defense?: I got my 7.5" (7.62X39) on sale, and with a crate of ammo it retailed just over $1K, so for my zombie defense I now have an extremely portable (potential high capacity) reliable firearm and 1,400 rounds of 7.62 ball... how much better prepared need i be? 7.62 is abundant and CHEAP, when it does go on sale from the vendors here, you can get killer deals

Beaver defense? pffft 7.62 vaporizes cinder blocks, I can only imagine what it would do to those buck tooth river nazis.

Will the slide fire stock allow me to shoot into space?

No, you need illegal hollow points to do that.

A lot of the Vz's I've seen have been enhanced with various rails, AR stocks and other upgrades. And a fair number of them are also restricted, hence my question... Most bulk .223 will run $350-$400 for 1000 rounds, and it's also non-corrosive (conceding that it is more expensive though). But I agree - maybe I need to find an opportunity to shoot one.

The 7.62 version are all chrome lined so corrosive is not really an issue, if your looking at the 5.56 version I think you need to re-evaluate your priorities, put down your purse and pick up a REAL VZ58 chambered in a real mans "7.62 nutswinger" chambering.

I am amazed that a guy with such nice guns like you has never shouldered a VZ before!

Actually, I've kind of become a subscriber to the "less is more" philosophy - so that's true to the extent I have very few to actually send. :)

I notice that the definition of a "few" guns varies on here. There are guys with 30+ guns that say they have a "small" collection, and amazingly there are people with about 8 guns that will claim they have "many"... it is all perspective :D

No comparisons. It's kind of in a class of its own anyway, isn't it?

Indeed.

lol. The AR platform is a love-hate relationship, because I love tinkering and playing around with it - to the point where it drives me up the wall because I wish they'd stop making accessories for it... ;)

The AR is the barbie gun, they will never stop giving it new careers and they will never stop making senseless accessories for it.

I am still waiting for them to release a 5.7mm and 4.6mm versions, (I am sure it is probably in the works, someone is probably shilling that as I type.)

I went through that phase of accessorizing, but after I got my gun to a comfortable point, I just figured I couldn't do anything else to my AR that would make it more enjoyable... so I bought more mags and a crate of surplus :D
