what's the best coyote defense gun ?

To the best of my knowledge that's the only confirmed case in Canadian history. Again, realistically riding your atv or walking rugged terrain is far more dangerous.

Rambo survivalist fantasies about fighting wild coyotes are immature and demonstrate a lack of understanding of the wilderness and wildlife.

Having been stalked by coyote, but never attacked, I think it silly not to be prepared. Even if you see them as a group of 'wild dogs' - they are dangerous. Your choice I suppose, and if you're out with kids or pets, keep them close.

There's been a few attacks in the past few years. Usually, person & small dog out for walk, coyotes attacks small dog, owner intervenes, coyote attacks owner until sufficiently beaten and scared away.

What's confirmed by scientists isn't always the big picture.

One(at least) of my hunting partners seen them attack deer, can't see a person being harder to kill.

I agree. I read the paper that they released on Candace Berner's death (wolves), and it was considered significant because they matched the DNA on specific culled wolves to their DNA on her body.

I'm sure there are many, many more deaths that aren't 100% forensically vetted, so you may as well keep cautious!

I'm not so sure the size 11 Sorrel would work....I approached a coyote, run down by hounds, tried to kick it....WRONG...Dogs wouldn't keep out of way...coyote didn't want to be kicked...and was quicker than I was...considerably so!!!!

I had a run in with a pissed off coyote, ended up poking it full of holes with my pocket knife. He destroyed my pants, left me with some battle wounds and incentive to buy a one handed opening knife.
