What's the deal with threaded barrels?

compensator's are fun little add on's once you get into them.
they are only limited by your imagination and money.

they are like pin stripe's on your car, decoration.
or.... those little tassley dingly balls you can put on the inside of your car if you are so inclined.

We used to call them "Velocity Balls" back in the day when local dufuses got paid on friday night and wanted to add trinkets to their rust bucket cars.
 
Not to derail this thread, but why do you feel that you need a comp on a rimfire? Or a barrel weight? I've never had trouble controlling a .22.

Precision pistol shooting benefits from weights and comps. Though not a comp or threaded barrel, I do have a .22 LR target pistol that weighs in at 2lbs 14oz. It is heavy but very stable.
